UAE: Ras Al Khaimah man, wife jailed for framing business partner in drug case
In a calculated attempt to seize control of a thriving joint business, a man identified as "S.R." and his wife were sentenced to 10 years in prison each and fined Dh50,000 after conspiring to frame his Asian business partner for drug possession. The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court also sentenced the wife's brother, "A.A," to 15 years in prison and imposed a fine of Dh100,000 for his role in the crime.
The incident detailed in Al Ain Al Sahira magazine, a monthly publication issued by the Ras Al Khaimah Police General Command, unfolded after S.R. and his partner launched a successful business venture that quickly began generating significant profits. Consumed by greed, S.R.'s wife encouraged him to find a way to remove his partner and take over the profits for themselves.
S.R. then approached his brother-in-law, A.A., who was known to use drugs, and convinced him to procure a n arcotic substance. A.A planted the drugs in the partner's vehicle, and the conspirators filed a police report accusing him of possession.
Anti-narcotics officers arrested the Asian partner after discovering the drugs during a vehicle search. However, initial drug tests showed the man had not consumed any substances, raising suspicions among investigators. Further questioning revealed that the partner had been in recent disputes with S.R, who had allegedly attempted to end their partnership.
Upon being summoned and confronted by investigators, S.R. confessed to the plot, admitting that he had orchestrated the framing with the help of his wife and her brother. All three were referred to the judiciary and received their respective sentences.
The case was cracked through the active efforts and investigative skills of the Ras Al Khaimah Police, who were able to uncover the truth and bring justice to the wrongfully accused.
