Vice-President says national interest is paramount
In the backdrop of India targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan, Vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday said every Indian had today realised the power, perspective and vision of the governance and it had elevated the spirit of every citizen of the country. He was speaking at the release of Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya's autobiography, 'Janta Ki Kahani Meri Aatamkatha', at Maharashtra Sadan here. Saying that no interest – personal, political or economic – could be above the national interest, Mr. Dhankhar emphasised that 'expression' and 'debate' were complimentary in a democratic system and cannot survive without each other. 'Democracy cannot survive without expression and if the person believes that whatever he is saying is correct then the expression is meaningless. If we stray away from expression and debate, then ego and arrogance will come which is very painful for both democracy and an individual,' said the Vice-president, recalling how Mr. Dattatraya himself followed this principle in his life to open debate with the Naxalites in 1984. The autobiography is a personal and historically significant work that presents an in-depth account of the life and journey of Mr. Dattatraya, who served as Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh pracharak for long before entering active politics with the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Originally written in Telugu, the book was later translated into Hindi. Through this, readers will get to read the story of Mr. Dattatraya's personal experiences and political evolution. Born on June 12, 1947, Mr. Dattatraya served as Union Minister of State for Railways in Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 2002, besides holding several other portfolios and positions in the party for the past over four decades. Mr. Dattatraya said three Cs – character, commitment and conviction – were the important aspects of life and every challenge could be faced by imbibing these three traits. He said he came from a very humble background, his mother being a street vendor, and had never dreamt to be a Minister or a Governor, but only aimed to dedicate his life to the welfare of the common man. Mr. Dattatraya said he was not a poet or a writer, but was encouraged by the people around him to audio record his experiences during the COVID-induced lockdown and this later took the form of a book. Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal praised the Governor as 'truly an epitome of humility' and said that his book showcased the story of a simple human being. Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy also addressed the gathering. Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Anurag Thakur and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini were also present.

Sense of belonging vital for fostering peace: Bhagwat
HT Correspondent : Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday called for fostering a sense of belonging which will establish peace in the world. Bhagwat was addressing a gathering after performing Kanyadan of 125 women at a mass marriage ceremony organised by the Sangh's eastern UP karyawah Virendra Jaiswal on the bank of Shankuldhara pond in Kashi (Varanasi) on the occasion of Akshya Tritiya on Wednesday. 'Because of this feeling of belonging, there will be redemption for the entire country. No difference -- language, province, caste and creed -- all are our own. Because of this feeling of belonging, peace will be established in the whole world, there is no other way,' he said. He said there are people who consider the entire world as their own. 'These people neither have power, nor wealth, but the wealthiest and powerful people bow their head before them... So the sense of belong is very important. Everyone should expand it and work for the welfare of people with a sense of responsibility,' he said. He further said, 'All those whose marriage has been solemnised here on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya here today, they are very fortunate because the mass marriage is endowed with all sanskars.' He lauded Kshetra Karyavah Virendra Jaiswal and said he organised the mass marriage ceremony as a duty towards the society. 'It is our tradition to do things for our own people,' Bhagwat said and appealed to the people to expand the ambit of 'apnapan'. 'It is the sense of belonging that makes every family a responsible family,' Bhagwat said, adding, 'We have a tradition of doing things for those (who) belong to us.'

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat alludes to the Ramayana in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack
New Delhi The duty of the king is to protect people, and the king must perform his duty, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Saturday, following the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Mr. Bhagwat criticised Pakistan for its 'evil act'. He was speaking in Delhi at the launch of a book, The Hindu Manifesto, authored by Swami Vigyananand, a senior functionary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and initiator of the World Hindu Congress. 'Our dharma is that we must not get beaten by tyrants and must teach a lesson to goons,' the RSS chief said, adding, 'The king's job is to protect people and he must perform his duty.' Giving the example of Ravana from the epic Ramayana, Mr. Bhagwat said that it was known he had all the qualities to become 'the best' king, whether as a great administrator or follower of Shiva or in scholarship. Ravana had everything but he had to die because he was not using these qualities for good, he said. 'It was known that whatever you do, Ravan couldn't be made a good person. Then, only one option was left — that his present body should be destroyed so that he could get another soul and body. This is why God killed him and this killing is not violence; it's non-violence only,' Mr. Bhagwat said. 'India's nature is non-violence is to change people. It is to make people some people can never change. You do whatever possible for them. They won't change and they will keep creating nuisance in the what one can do in this situation?' Mr. Bhagwat said. He also spoke of how the Bhagvad Gita said that Arjuna had to kill his own brothers because that was 'the only way out for them'.

Dr Ambedkar's contribution makes him adorable to all Indians: Bhagwat
Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat applauded the role of Dr BR Ambedkar in bringing social harmony to the nation. 'One cannot forget the contribution made by Dr Ambedkar and this makes him adorable to all Indians,' he said while interacting with RSS activists from Braj Prant on the fifth and last day of his five-day visit to Aligarh on Monday. 'India can never forget the contribution that Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar made for nation,' the RSS chief added. Talking about social harmony, he stressed that 'Panch Parivartan', which includes social harmony, should not remain only a subject of speeches but should be first practised in true sense. 'Before preaching others about it, we need to practise the Panch Parivartan ourselves,' Bhagwat said. The 'Panch Parivartan' (five fold transformation in the society) are Kutumbh Prabhodhan (family values), environmental protection, social harmony, self reform and duties of citizens as fundamental pillars of change. As per a press statement issued by 'Prachar Vibhag' of the RSS on Monday, Bhagwat gave clues for carrying these five fundamental pillars of change to the core of the society. 'Society is looking upon RSS with hope and thus whatever we communicate to it, will be accepted well. Thus, it is important for us to go to the society with full preparations,' he said. Elaborating on 'Panch Parivartan', Bhagwat first talked about social harmony, saying 'our goal is to remove differences in the society.' 'We need to weed out caste-based differences and reach households of all sections of the society, invite them for food at our home and this could be well done by a Swayamsewak by setting an example,' he added. 'We need to have food collectively, pray together in family. This is required because families are disintegrating and thus Swayamsewaks should come forward and tell the society that family is our basic,' the RSS chief said. Bhagwat also advocated 'swadeshi' and urged Swayamsewaks to promote our own nation's products in our lives and this 'swa' (self) of 'swadeshi' will make us have a sense of pride towards nation. Talking about environmental protection, he stressed planting more saplings, preventing pollution and contributing in having cleaner ponds, river and water bodies besides arranging food for birds. 'We need to know about our duties as citizens and ensure its compliance and then take the message to the common man so that a mindset is developed to serve the nation,' said Bhagwat who later left for Delhi.
