Driven by penury & drugs, siblings take to crime path
Lucknow: With no steady income, rising expenses, and addiction gnawing away at their dignity, Arjun Rawat and his elder sister Mohini went way ward. The siblings along with their associate Uday Raj slipped into the world of petty thefts and
jewellery snatching
to make ends meet.
They targeted the victims in Sushant Golf City, Gosainganj and Mohanlalganj.
After a string of petty thefts and robberies, the trio was nabbed on Friday. Arjun, 27, initially worked as a daily-wager while Uday, 28, was a small time farmer in Gosainganj. Th duo would execute the crime while Arjun's sister Mohini, 35, sold the stolen articles to jewellers.
"She was the one who moved freely, raising no suspicion. She became their safest way to turn crime into cash," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Nipun Agarwal.
The duo used a motorcycle—bought on instalments but never paid off—as their getaway vehicle. With no job prospects and
drug addiction
clouding their judgement, crime became a way of life.
Their run ended after April 27 incident in which they snatched gold jewellery from a SGPGI resident in Gosainganj. The probe led police to Rastogi Jewellers in Neelmatha, where stolen jewellery worth Rs 26,200 was recovered.
