Eagles Ex Standout Linked As Right Fit For Rival

Rasul Douglas was never able to be the kind of consistent starter when he was originally a third round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. He certainly turned himself into one at this point of his journey. Advertisement The 30-year-old corner from New Jersey is entering his 10th season in the league, but is looking for a new team to play for after a successful run with both the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills. Top cornerback play is hard to come by in the league. And while Douglas certainly isn't a top player at his position, he has plenty of experience to be a commodity to teams around the league. Pro Football Focus' Ryan Smith believes Douglas could be a good fit for one specific NFC contender for that very reason. The Minnesota Vikings. "Douglas is coming off a disappointing season in which he ranked 102nd out of 116 qualifying cornerbacks with a 53.9 PFF overall grade," Smith said. "He was strong the previous three years, earning a career-best 81.0 PFF overall grade in 2023. The eight-year veteran has been a ballhawk in the NFL, recording at least seven pass breakups in six different seasons and picking off 14 passes from 2021-2023." Advertisement Douglas has picked off 19 passes in nine seasons around the league including a surprising four for the Bills after being shipped away by the Packers. Philadelphia was never going to be in on the former player in their system. They have too many corners as is. Minnesota does not. And that's why the Vikings may be interested in bringing a former opponent into the mix. Seahawks host veteran CB in free-agent visit

Veteran free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas is visiting the Seahawks on Tuesday. Tom Pelissero first reported the news on X this morning. Douglas, 29, is an eight-year journeyman who would bring much needed experience to Seattle's Secondary. He was drafted by the Eagles in the third round of the 2017 Draft and won the Super Bowl with them as a rookie, contributing primarily on special teams. He started seven games for them in 2018 and six in 2019, competing for a starting job but failing to move above 4th on the depth chart. Philadelphia waived him in 2020 and Carolina picked him up the following day. Advertisement After Douglas started eleven games for the Panthers that season, he would be signed and released by both the Raiders and Texans, land on the Cardinals practice squad, and be claimed by the Packers in Week 5. He started nine games in Green Bay and finally earned a multi-year contract with them in 2022, signing for $21M over three years with a $5.3 million signing bonus. Douglas held up after the deal, posting solid PFF DEF Grades of 71.1 and 81 while playing over 900 snaps in both 2022 and 2023. He finished the strongest analytical season of his career in 2023, but the injury bug would bite him for the first time and derail his starter status. Buffalo traded for Douglas at the trade deadline in 2023 and finally gave him a starting opportunity, but he tore his MCL and kept playing knowing he wasn't fully healthy. He takes sole responsibility for the Bills' AFC Divisional round loss to Kansas City, telling Tyler Dunne of Go Long 'that last game was still my fault. If I was healthy, we would've won' in September of 2024. Unsurprisingly, Douglas had the worst analytical season of his career in 2024, posting a much lower 53.9 PFF DEF Grade than ever before. While players typically play the season after a non-contact knee injury, they typically have lowered expectations until they're an entire season removed from the injury and build back the tissue. Even when they do recover physically, their playing style can be hampered by fear and worry. Advertisement This sets the Seahawks up nicely to benefit from a fully healthy year from Douglas should they sign him in 2025. He's got a wealth of experience in contending situations and some with rebuilding teams. He's used to competing for a job, and knows the position each of Seattle's young DBs are in first-hand, from being drafted, doubted, injured, starting, backing up, and playing special teams. He's already earned a big contract and seems intent on competing for a championship, meaning the Seahawks could get him on a team-friendly deal. Judging by his story and the above quote, he seems a good fit to meet the organization's strict character standard as well. Douglas would add versatile veteran leadership to a secondary with unclear depth options. If he looks fluid and healthy while working out at the VMAC today, he could be the newest Seahawk tomorrow. Report: CB Rasul Douglas to visit Seahawks

May 13 - Veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas is visiting the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, NFL Network reported. The Miami Dolphins reportedly also had interest in Douglas, who spent last season with the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills. Douglas, 29, recorded 58 tackles and one forced fumble in 15 games (all starts) with the Bills. A Super Bowl champion with Philadelphia, Douglas has totaled 19 interceptions and 441 tackles in 120 career games (80 starts) for the Eagles (2017-19), Carolina Panthers (2020), Packers (2021-23) and Bills (2024). Douglas was selected by the Eagles in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of West Virginia. --Field Level Media

Bills Free Agent Starter Predicted To Sign With AFC East Rival

The Buffalo Bills always appreciated the short time they had with cornerback Rasul Douglas over the last few years. The former Packer and Eagle was never the best cornerback in the league, but he always gave it his all. And in Sean McDermott's system on defense, he turned out to be an excellent fit for the group. Advertisement Now, with both Tre'Davious White back in Buffalo, and the team drafting Maxwell Hairston in the first round, Douglas' tenure with the team has all but come to an end. As he searches for a new home in the NFL, there are some cornerback-needy teams that could use his services. One of those are the Miami Dolphins. Pro Football Focus' Mason Cameron believes that Douglas would be an excellent fit for the Dolphins because of his schematic breakdown. "Rasul Douglas may be a name to target in Miami's Cover 2-heavy scheme (19.7%, third in NFL), a coverage he excelled in last season, having earned a 74.4 PFF coverage grade," Cameron wrote. Advertisement There is some truth to this. Douglas is a solid zone corner, and the Dolphins are expected to move on from Jalen Ramsey this offseason. It is also not like the Bills are going to be bitter about Douglas leaving for an AFC East rival. They are the ones who chose not to re-sign him, and it is up to the corner to find a new home if he wants to keep playing. That is precisely what Douglas is saying here. It's not a failure of loyalty on his part to face off against his former team twice in a year. It's just part of the business that has become the norm in the NFL.
