Israel-Iran tensions: 61 Rajasthanis stuck in Georgia; group seeks urgent help from PM Narendra Modi, EAM Jaishankar
JAISALMER: A group of 61 Indian citizens from Rajasthan, mostly chartered accountants and their families, are currently stranded in Georgia following the cancellation of their return flight due to escalating military tensions between Israel and Iran.
The group, which includes three residents from Jaisalmer, was supposed to return home on Friday but found themselves caught in the crossfire of international flight cancellations.
The travellers, part of a delegation organised by the Rajasthan Tax Consultants Organisation under the leadership of Ratan Goyal, were in Georgia for a residential refresher course from June 8 to June 13.
Among those stranded are Jaisalmer resident Pramod Bhatia's son Bhavik Bhatia, daughter-in-law Sakshi and grandson Kiyansh, who had planned to fly back to Jaipur via Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight on Friday.
However, the ongoing conflict has resulted in widespread cancellations affecting their travel plans.
Pramod Bhatia, who is also a chartered accountant, described the situation as distressing, stating that while the group is safe, their families back home are increasingly worried about their well-being and return. The group took to social media platform X to seek urgent assistance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, foreign minister S Jaishankar and the Indian Embassy in Georgia for a safe evacuation.

"After checking out of our hotel and heading to the airport, we were informed that our flight to Sharjah had been cancelled due to the conflict," Bhavik told his father. "This forced us to return to our hotel and we are now anxious about how we will get back to India."
