Tirupati police get hands-on training on emergency strike response
The Police Department launched an eleven-day orientation programme in 'Room Intervention' for its personnel in Tirupati district to train them in the nuances of responding to emergency strikes and extremist attacks. The programme began at the A.R. Parade ground here on Wednesday, where cops from the Armed Reserve, Special Party and Civil Police departments were given hands-on training.
Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Harshavardhan Raju organised the event to prepare them in the know-how of dealing with attacks, keeping the situation under control and informing the higher-ups, before the arrival of special forces.
'In case of a bomb threat call, the local police should be alerted. Details such as the informant's identity, call details, number of persons at the spot, blue print of the building and others should be clearly noted down. The civilians in the vicinity should be cleared before the arrival of special forces', Deputy Superintendent of Police (Armed Reserve) Ravindra Reddy explained to them.
The police were also explained the importance of cutting supply to utilities such as gas, electricity and water in order to reduce the impact of a probable blast. Later, they participated in a 'mock lightning attack' drill and broke into a building.
