GUNTHER chokes Michael Cole, puts Pat McAfee to sleep
GUNTHER has lost his ever loving mind! The now former world heavyweight champion, who lost his title to Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41 and had to watch him celebrate with Sami Zayn and Jimmy Uso on tonight's (April 21) Raw After Mania episode, decided he was so fed up he went after the commentary team. Advertisement Indeed, GUNTHER got into a verbal altercation with both Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. First, he yelled at Cole before knocking his headset off and choking him. McAfee, of course, couldn't just standby and watch it happen, so the laid into him with a punch. GUNTHER responded by putting him to sleep while WWE personnel tried to pull him off. They eventually pulled him off and he was escorted out through the crowd. McAfee, meanwhile, did one hell of a sell job while his podcast partners hopped the barricade to check on him. He was taken to the back for further evaluation, selling the whole way. What an angle. Advertisement Get complete Raw results and coverage of this week's entire episode by clicking here. More from

WWE star makes Raw after Mania return with 'amazing body transformation'
Rusev made his WWE return in emphatic fashion 24 hours after a historic WrestleMania 41. The Raw After Mania is well known for its surprises, and fans were treated to the former United States Champion making a comeback five years after he was released early in the pandemic. He came out and laid out Akira Tozawa and Otis during their match against new World Tag Team Champions The New Day. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods escaped but left their opponents to the wrath of Rusev. The Bulgarian Brute hadn't been seen on WWE TV since 2020, and looked a world away from past iterations of himself after a ridiculous transformation, with fans quick to heap praise on him. 'Rusev looks MONSTROUS 😮💨 just destroyed Otis and Tozawa! #WWERaw,' wrote @Elliottt93, as @McArles7 said: 'Rusev looks the best he's ever looked, amazing body transformation #RawAfterMania' 'Holy crap, Rusev looks phenomenal! #RawAfterMania,' added @AJKirsch, while @1ndecipherable1 pointed out: 'Rusev cut weight and looks monstrous… And he was already huge.' 'I'll admit, I wasn't moved when I heard Rusev re signed with WWE but he looks in the best shape of his life! #WWERaw,' admitted @heel_enthusiast. A few months after his WWE exit, Rusev – a former three-time United States Champion – joined AEW as Miro, but featured less and less as the years went on. He's followed the likes of Ethan Page, NXT North American Champion Ricky Saints and Lucha Bros' Penta and Rey Fenix by jumping ship to WWE. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video As well as Rusev's return, the show also saw Bron Breakker lay out both Roman Reigns and CM Punk at the end of the show. The son of Hall of Famer Rick Steiner has now aligned himself with Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman, bouncing right back after losing the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania. New champion Dominik Mysterio had a successful first defence against Penta thanks to a returning JD McDonagh, while World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso had a wholesome celebration with twin Jimmy Uso and friend Sami Zayn. At the start of the night, Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena tore into the fans for being fickle in their reactions to Cody Rhodes. He ended up getting dropped with an RKO as longtime rival Randy Orton stood tall, hinting at a match between the two legends at Backlash. Just 24 hours after losing the Women's Tag Team Titles to Lyra Valkyria and a returning Becky Lynch, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez regained the gold. The Man was furious and turned on Lyra after the bell, laying her out with multiple Man-handle Slams. There was also an NXT presence, as the brand's Women's Champion Stephanie Vaquer had an impromptu match against Women's World Champion Iyo Sky. The bout ended in controversy when Roxanne Perez and Giulia attacked both women, while Rhea Ripley came down to save the day, making it clear she's still gunning for Iyo's title in the near future. Shocking moment Pat McAfee gets brutally choked out by WWE star on post-WrestleMania show
Pat McAfee's face turned a shade of light red as WWE star Gunther brutally choked him out on Monday's episode of RAW in a shocking moment between the behemoth and wrestling commentator. In addition to his ESPN hosting duties, McAfee is a color commentator for the WWE and rarely gets physical with the wrestlers. Gunther appeared in the middle of WWE's first post-WrestleMania 41 show, arguing outside the ring with McAfee and the company's play-by-play commentator, Michael Cole. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, who lost the title to Jey Uso as part of WrestleMania 41, appeared to take exception with the commentators critiques of one of his rare losses. After Cole made a comment to Gunther about 'tapping out' to Uso, he Austrian grappler lost it, putting Cole in a chokehold. McAfee, who has been more physical with WWE wrestlers in the past compared to Cole, jumped in to save his fellow commentator. McAfee attempted to walk away before Gunther put a rear-naked choke on him, eventually making him pass out. GUNTHER JUST CHOKED OUT PAT MCAFEE! 😲 #RawAfterMania — WWE (@WWE) April 22, 2025 McAfee was in the chokehold for nearly a minute before several WWE representatives were able to loosen Gunther's grip. McAfee did get to his feet after Gunther's choke was no longer applied. He did need to be checked out by WWE personnel while being walked off screen. The ESPN talent was unable to continue with the show, being replaced on commentary by Joe Tessitore. Gunther is expected to now be storyline suspended for several weeks for putting his hands on a non-wrestler. McAfee himself may have been written off television by being choked out, as he returned to the company for the most prestigious time of the year for the company, which ended with WrestleMania 41. Should McAfee take a break from WWE, Tessitore is the natural replacement as part of the RAW commentary team.

RAW after WrestleMania RESULTS: Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman reveal a third man, top WWE star turns heel and a major talent returns after five years away
Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman were the talk of the industry on Saturday night after their stunning heel turn at the close of WrestleMania 41's night one and the pair used Monday Night Raw to explain their actions. CM Punk and Roman Reigns had little interesting hearing what they had to say and both made their own attempts to shut them up. However, Heyman and Rollins were saved by a hooded figure just as Reigns was set to Spear the former in half. That figure turned out to be Bron Breakker, the son of Rick Steiner and nephew of Scott Steiner who has long appeared destined for greatness. The trio of Heyman, Rollins and Breakker stood tall to close out the show and signify the beginning of a new dawn in the company. A power shift indeed. WWE Raw After WrestleMania Results, Winners And Grades On April 21, 2025
WWE Raw After WrestleMania, typically the most anticipated Raw of the year, advertised an appearance from the last real champion John Cena, who has vowed to ruin wrestling. Raw also advertised an appearance from the new world champion Jey Uso. Raw After Mania is known for its call-ups, debuts and returns. After Joe Hendry answered Randy Orton's WrestleMania challenge, Rusev remains a candidate to make his WWE return after reportedly signing with the company. WWE's WrestleMania recap featured a quote from yours truly: 'Let the Yeet Era begin.' John Cena walked out in an all-black entrance for the second night in a row. He told the ring announcer to reintroduce him as 'the greatest of all time. The Never-Seen 17. The last real champion: John Cena!' Fans cheered and chanted 'Cena!' Cena called out fans for being abusive, only to cheer for Heel Cena without apologizing. Cena acknowledged the Raw After Mania crowd was trying to hijack the show. Fans chanted 'we are sorry!' Cena agreed, saying they are sorry, and also a bunch of low-lifes. Now they were chanting 'asshole!' Cena flashed a text graphic on the black screen that said '36 dates.' A countdown to his retirement. Cena named the nine cities one-by-one and received 'what'' chants. There's now 27 dates left. Not matches. Dates. When the doomsday clock hits zero, the professional wrestling timeline stops. Cena brought up Cody Rhodes, who was booed. Cena called fans heartless for booing the man that everybody cheered last year when he finished his story, and said this is why Cena turned his back on them. The camera went in tight on Cena for a photo op. After Cena said 'the last world champion is here," he took an RKO to a big pop. Orton hoisted the title, and it looks like Cena vs. Orton will headline WWE Backlash in St. Louis. New WWE ring announcer Mark Nash needed a few attempts to announce Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Michael Cole and Pat McAfee joked Nash was still intimidated by John Cena for making him re-introduce him. For what it's worth, I thought both Nash's introductions of Cena were very good. This match was far superior to their WrestleMania match. There were several nearfalls and high spots, including a springboard power bomb from the outside of the ring to the inside by Liv Morgan on Becky Lynch and also a Raquel Rodriguez super power bomb on Lyra Valkyria. The finish came when Lyra accidentally bumped Raquel Rodriguez into Becky Lunch, only to turn around and take an Oblivion. Liv and Raquel won the Women's Tag Titles 24 hours after losing them. They very well may be the best women's tag team in WWE history (a low bar due to WWE's inconsistency in the division.) Now if only WWE would let them have a lengthy reign. After the loss, Lyra Valkyria gave Becky Lynch an apologetic look. Lynch looked disgusted. Becky hugged Lyra, but immediately turned on her and pummeled Valkyria with two Manhandle Slams. The heel crowd chanted 'one more time!' and Becky obliged with a third Manhandle Slam. The New Day told Las Vegas to bow down to the new tag team champions. They were interrupted by Alpha Academy. Maxxine Dupri challenged the New Day to a Tag Team Title match on behalf of the Alpha Academy. She called the New Day Minutemen, which inspired a 'Minutemen' chants. Before the match could start Rusev made a surprise return with new theme music. It was similar to his AEW music, but not as good. The New Day bailed, and Rusev attacked Alpha Academy. For those counting at home, this is a second consecutive heel turn segment and the third segment to feature significant heel heat. Stephanie Vaquer interrupted an Iyo Sky victory lap to a huge ovation. The NXT women's champion said she wanted to battle the best of the best. Iyo challenged Stephanie to a match tonight. Adam Pearce interrupted to a sea of boo's as fans thought he was gonna stop the dream match from happening. Instead, Pearce made it official. Iyo and Stephanie had an excellent match, but they did have a couple miscues. One was against the ropes, and another came on the top rope before they recovered with an excellent top-rope arm drag from Vaquer. The issue was likely the language barrier. Referee Jessika Carr seemed to be very involved. Vaquer and Sky received chants of "this is awesome" and "fight forever." Vaquer hit the Scissor Stomp to a big reaction and light chants for Booker T, who is in love with this move. Fans chanted "one more time," but Vaquer instead went for her finisher. A great match was interrupted by Roxanne Perez. Giulia hit the ring, and of course, turned heel as she aligned with Perez. Rhea Ripley evened the odds. Ripley faced off with Giulia, but instead of a dream match pop, fans told Giulia "you f'd up." Giulia left and Ripley returned the Women's World Title to Iyo. Ripley also issued a warning. Jey Uso had another run-it-back moment with his theme music. Sami Zayn came out and congratulated Jey. Sami admitted it was hard for him to sit on the sidelines, but he wanted to tell Jey Uso he was proud of him. Zayn called for a third loop of the Yeet celebration. With all the heel turns on this night, it appeared for a moment line Zayn was going to turn on Jey while Jey had his back turned. When Jey turned around the two shared a warm embrace. There was no heel turn. This was a feel-good moment, and it was made better by Jimmy Uso joining the celebration. Backstage, Karrion Kross had a heated confrontation with AJ Styles about Allen's bulletproof moral compass. Kross implied he'd be going after Logan Paul. Coming out of break, an infuriated Gunther was screaming at Michael Cole, who participated in a "You tapped out" chant earlier in the night. Cole also questioned if Gunther could win the big one after losing g two WrestleManias in a row. Gunther put Cole in a rear-naked Choke, and Pat McAfee saved Cole by shoving Gunther. Fans were in a frenzy. WWE officials got between Gunther and McAfee, but Gunther bulldozed everybody and caught McAfee in a rear-naked choke. The heat was smoldering as Gunther choked out Pat, with fans chanting "F U Gunther." McAfee had to be helped to the back and seemed as if he was gonna puke. Cole went with him. Joe Tessitore took over announcing duties as Cole was told to take the night off. Cole claimed he broke his nose and said he wasn't gonna let some bully stop him from doing his job. Fans cheered and chanted for Cole (European style) as he made his way back down to the announce desk alongside Tessitore. This has been an unbelievable show. Penta was in a tough spot as a rising babyface against the babyface buzzsaw that is Dominik Mysterio, especially on Raw After Mania. Michael Cole reiterated WWE commentators should be able to so their jobs. Cole said he would not detract from the show with his criticism of Gu ther, only to continue to talk about Gunther. Cole said LeBron didn't fight Stephen A. Smith, but instead had a conversation. Cole asked for a status update on McAfee. The finish came with the return of JD McDonagh, who cast Penta the match with a quick loss. The Judgment Day celebrated on the ramp. Seth, dressed like The Mask, waited patiently as the fickle Raw After Mania fans sang his song, chanted for CM Punk, chanted for Roman Reigns and chanted 'F U Heyman." Before Seth could complete his self-aggrandizing intro, he was interrupted by CM Punk. Punk taped his fist and immediately brawled with Rollins. After getting the better of Seth, Punk turned his attention to Paul Heyman. Due to the distraction, Seth Rollins attacked Punk from behind and hit a Stomp. Heyman introduced Seth Freakin Rollins as the new top star of WWE. Roman Reigns' music hit as Rollins dumped Punk out of the ring. Reigns stormed to the ring and hit Rollins with a Spear. Now Roman turned his attention to Paul Heyman. Reigns laid Heyman out with a Superman Punch. Reigns went for a Spear and was intercepted by an even better Spear. From Bron Breakker. Breakker then speared CM Punk. Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker are Paul Heyman guys. Fans chanted 'holy s—t.' WWE Season 42 is going to go crazy. Breakker put Reigns through the barricade. Rollins told Breakker to bring Reigns into the ring, and they laid waste to both to end an all-time Raw.
