Baloch Leader Urges PM Modi To Support 'Free Balochistan Movement', Lauds Indus Treaty Suspension

Last Updated: The Baloch leader condemned Pakistan for decades of atrocities against the Baloch people, including enforced disappearances, torture, and genocide. Tara Chand, President of the Baloch American Congress, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday to provide substantial support to the 'Free Balochistan Movement'. In a strongly worded letter made public, Chand condemned Pakistan for decades of atrocities against the Baloch people, including enforced disappearances, torture, and genocide. In a post on X, Chand wrote: 'I have written a letter to Prime Minister Modi… Urging @narendramodi to lend meaningful support for a free #Balochistan! The Baloch people face oppression and genocide under Pakistan's regime. A free Balochistan would be a blessing for peace-loving India. Stand with us for justice!" He also attached the letter with his post. I have written a letter to Prime Minister Modi which is attached in the tweet. 📢 Urging @narendramodi to lend meaningful support for a free #Balochistan! The Baloch people face oppression and genocide under Pakistan's regime. A free Balochistan would be a blessing for… — Dr. Tara Chand (@drtchand) May 23, 2025 This appeal was conveyed through two formal letters sent on behalf of the Baloch American Congress, directly addressed to the Prime Minister's Office in Delhi. In his communication, Chand expresses appreciation for the Indian leadership's prior attention to the Balochistan issue, particularly noting PM Modi's remarks during his Red Fort speech, which he sees as a demonstration of moral support that inspired hope among the oppressed Baloch population globally. He asserted that the Baloch people have suffered genocidal-like acts committed by a "jihadist army" supported by Pakistan's dominant military establishment at Rawalpindi GHQ. "Governed by a jihadist army, this poorly conceived country is accountable for the disappearances, torture, deaths, and displacement of thousands of my countrymen," the letter claims. He stressed that these actions are part of a larger campaign to suppress the Baloch national liberation movement, which has been ongoing for several decades. He also pointed out that China's involvement in Balochistan as a colonial force presents an additional geopolitical danger. Tara Chand expressed disappointment that the Baloch national liberation movement has not gained international visibility, noting, "Outside of the Indian media, there is scant acknowledgement of the atrocities committed by the Pakistani state in Occupied Balochistan." He urged India to assume a leading role on the global stage in raising awareness about this situation. "Without substantial moral and political backing from the state level, Pakistan and its allies could extinguish the national resistance of the Baloch people, ushering in a new, more ominous phase of colonialism in Balochistan," the letter indicates. The document highlighted that Balochistan's abundant natural resources and strategic coastal position are crucial for regional stability. Baloch Leader On Indus Treaty Chand also commended Prime Minister Modi's decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, characterising it as a courageous move that conveys a powerful message to Pakistan. "I commend your astute decision to place the Indus Waters Treaty on hold and to clarify to the jihadist generals of Pakistan that blood and water cannot coexist," the letter quotes. He stressed that the Baloch people hold high hopes for India's leadership and are looking towards the Indian government with optimism. The Baloch American Congress (BAC) is a registered political entity that aims to advocate for the Baloch national struggle for the right to self-determination and to defend the socio-cultural and political rights of the Baloch Diaspora in the United States. Recep For Trouble Rudroneel Ghosh TNN Updated: May 15, 2025, 20:41 IST Türkiye president, who fashions himself as a neo-Ottoman sultan, also has a ruthless pragmatic streak. His support for Pakistan is strategic foray into South Asia to counter headwinds in Ankara & West Asia Indians are cancelling their travel plans to Türkiye in droves. Travel websites are no longer selling holiday packages to picturesque Cappadocia or Antalya. For, it didn't go unnoticed in India that during Operation Sindoor Pakistan military was using Turkish weapons to escalate the conflict. Initial investigations suggest that the hundreds of Pak drones deployed against India were of Turkish make. So, there's a growing demand now to boycott everything Turkish, from apples to Turkish delight. Ankara has solidly backed Islamabad in the military hostilities with New Delhi. And while Pak army chief Asim Munir and the military-ISI complex were seen to be the architects of the conflict, the figure who may have been egging on Rawalpindi GHQ is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan .

New India, New Rules: Operation Sindoor & Modi's Doctrine Put Pakistan On Notice

Last Updated: A rogue nation has been shaken, their military humbled. The night skies over Pakistan since May 7 bore witness to a truth so profound, so paradigm-shifting, that its tremors will be felt for generations. This was not merely a retaliatory pinprick; this was the roar of a resurgent India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, unequivocally declaring that the era of its strategic patience with Pakistan-sponsored terror is decisively over. In a stunning display of precision, audacity, and unwavering resolve, Operation Sindoor struck at the very core of Pakistan's military nerve and its terror-industrial complex. It left the Pakistani establishment exposed, rattled, and desperately scrambling for a global intervention to stop India. For the first time since the ignominious surrender of 1971, which bisected their nation, generations of Pakistanis, long fed a diet of jingoistic superiority and religious fanaticism by their military masters, witnessed the unthinkable: their country's most fortified military strongholds and urban centres under direct, sustained, and punishing Indian fire. Operation Sindoor was certainly not a mere symbolic gesture. Indian strike packages, flying with impunity, systematically targeted eleven high-worth air bases across the length and breadth of Pakistan – from Shorkot to Sargodha, from Kamra to Jacobabad. These weren't just airfields; they were the frontline bastions of Pakistan's air defence. In a matter of hours, their operational capabilities were crippled, their runways cratered, their hardened aircraft shelters breached, making any emergency mobilisation of fighter aircraft a logistical nightmare, if not an impossibility. As Indian firepower lit up their skies, an undeniable reality dawned upon the average Pakistani, a reality starkly different from the fabricated narratives peddled relentlessly by their state machinery. The psychological scar of that night runs deep, a visceral understanding that the sanctuary their territory once offered to terrorists targeting India is now definitively, and violently, over. The illusion of invulnerability, so carefully cultivated for decades by the Rawalpindi GHQ, was shattered into a million pieces under the weight of Indian ordnance. The sheer scale and audacity of Operation Sindoor sent Pakistan's military chief, General Asim Munir, into a tailspin of panic. Reports emerged of frantic calls to world capitals, not with defiance, but with desperate pleas, begging the international community to intervene and 'stop India." Having catastrophically failed to deter or defend, Munir resorted to the only card Pakistan has ever played with any conviction: the nuclear bluff. Warnings were issued, threats were made, the spectre of nuclear annihilation was dangled before the world, hoping to cow India into submission. But this is a New India, an India led by Narendra Modi, who understands that such bluffs, when repeatedly called, lose all currency. With the world watching, and Pakistan flashing its nuclear card with trembling hands, India doubled down. In broad daylight, further waves of Indian aircraft revisited key Pakistani air bases, delivering yet more punishing blows. The message was an electric shock to the Pakistani system and a clear signal to the global community: India will not be deterred by nuclear blackmail when its national security is at stake. The bluff had been called, spectacularly and humiliatingly. Striking at Terror's Fountainheads, Exposing ISI Lies Operation Sindoor was not limited to degrading Pakistan's conventional military capabilities. It struck at the very fountainheads of its terror enterprise. The infamous nerve centres of Pakistani terrorism in Muridke, the global headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Bahawalpur, the bastion of Jaish-e-Mohammed, were precisely targeted. These sprawling complexes, long considered untouchable sanctuaries by their ISI handlers, felt the full wrath of Indian resolve. The message was clear: those who plot, train, and launch terror against India will find no safe haven, no matter how deep within Pakistani territory they hide. Furthermore, in a move demonstrating both India's capability and its nuanced approach, specific religious seminaries and madrassas were also neutralised. This was not an attack on faith, but a surgical strike against terror infrastructure masquerading as religious instruction. This bold action sent a dual message to the world: firstly, India will not shy away from striking at the roots of terror, wherever they may be embedded. Secondly, by focusing only on those facilities directly involved in the terror pipeline, India signalled that its fight is with terrorism, not with the broader religious life of Pakistan, thereby pre-empting Pakistani attempts to portray India's actions as an attack on Islam itself. It was a message of precision: India will not, as a matter of course, hit generalised indoctrination centres, but will show no mercy to those actively weaponising faith to breed terrorists. Predictably, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan's notorious deep state, went into overdrive. Their propaganda wing, well-versed in the art of deception, frantically spun their usual tapestry of lies, attempting comical denials and conjuring false victories from the ashes of their profound humiliation. Yet, for all their efforts, they continue to underestimate the intelligence of their own people. While the state-controlled media parroted the official line, ordinary Pakistanis, who saw the flashes, heard the roars of Indian might, and felt the tremors of impact, are no longer so easily fooled. The terrifying reality they experienced firsthand cannot be erased by official diktats. The world, too, watched, not in disbelief, but in acknowledgement of India's transformed capabilities and newfound political will. Modi's Doctrine: A New Red Line Drawn in Fire This new reality was not left to interpretation. Prime Minister Modi, in his landmark address to the nation on May 12th, articulated India's new Pakistan doctrine with chilling clarity and unequivocal terms. The era of calibrated responses and strategic restraint in the face of grave provocation is over. He laid it bare: any future terror attack against India, with even a shred of linkage to Pakistani soil or its proxies, will not merely invite retaliation; it will be met with an open declaration of war against the state of Pakistan. The message, delivered with the full force of India's conviction following the success of Operation Sindoor, is unambiguous: the cost of sponsoring terror against India will now be an existential one for Pakistan. Operation Sindoor was more than just a military strike; it was the physical manifestation of India's new doctrine, a doctrine of proactive defence and credible deterrence. Prime Minister Modi has demonstrated that India's patience has limits, and its response will be swift, decisive, and overwhelming. Pakistan has been served notice; in a language it cannot feign to misunderstand. The old rules are gone. India has drawn a new red line – not in ink, but in fire, and its name is accountability. Reject the merchants of hate in Indian politics!

Matein Khalid I spent a wonderful afternoon with an old friend, a Persian prince in his cousin's Jumeirah villa to heal from the trauma of multiple Hindutva chicken hawks keyboard warriors berating me for pointing out the fact that Dassault Aviation shares have fallen 3% in Paris while the Chinese J-10CE fighter jet (Vigorous Dragon) soared 20% in Shenzhen. Only a moron with a Stone Age IQ would believe the military communiques of the Modi government (which lied so shamelessly to the Indian people about the IAF debacle at Balakot but still won the election since Namo is the Mozart of communal hate marketing.) or the jihadi johnny jet set that has anointed General Asim Munir (The Luminous One), the capo di tutti capi among the spit and polish Generaljis at Rawalpindi GHQ, who has never won a war other than against their own people, in East Bengal, Sind NWFP and Balochistan. The Hindutva trolls all seem intellectually underprivileged since only a certified moron could believe all the multiple lies any government, let alone a classic Third World fascist/communal kleptocracy will tell its own people in war time. There are many things wrong with Pakistan but nobody of my social class or education believes a word or whatever Gobelsian doublespeak uttered by the assi-tussi Praetorian Panjus who run Mount Olympus from the Rawalpindi GHQ. General Asim Munir, poor thing, did not even get into the Kakul Military Academy. A mulla's son like Zia, he never had the opportunity to benefit from the social milieu of Delhi's St. Stephen College, let alone the whisky and soda sundowner sipping officer buddies of the British Indian Army, who volunteered to fight and die for human decency from Anzio to Malaya, El Alamein to the pitiless jungles of Burma. See also Season of madness in the age of terror A bunch of thoughts from Matt. Communal hate, the mother's milk of the RSS, modelled on the Hitler youth and the alma mater of Mahatma Gandhi's assassin, is the worst possible political ideology for India. After all, the religious and ethnic fissures go back centuries and the fault lines of communal hate can precipitate spasms of bestial violence whose endgame is mass slaughter as happened in the killing fields of Punjab and Bengal in the summer of Partition. Modi's intellectually and morally stunted acolytes have demonized Muslim, Christians, Sardarjis, secular humanists and even kissy kissy lovers on St Valentine's Day throughout his decade in power. Surely the sane people of India, they exist as so many of them are my fondest friends in life (including my wife and Manju), realize that 200 million people cannot be demonized/marginalized without igniting the dark centrifugal forces of a communal civil war as happened in Gujarat under CM Modi in 2002. In my own life, I loved travelling around Yugoslavia and even had Serbian and Croatian girlfriends in succession when I lived in Europe. The young people of Yugoslavia were so wonderful, they shared so many values in common. Then Tito died and then Slobodan Milošević, a merchant of communal hate like Modi took power in Belgrade. By the time Slobo was hauled by the Americans to the international criminal court at the Hague, Yugoslavia had split into seven countries and 300,000 people were butchered in the civil war of the 1990's. If Modi's BJP continuous to elect clowns of hate in a communal circus, India could well share the fate of Yugoslavia. Cannot Indians remember their own history/Punjab and Assam in the 1980's, the Naxalite revolt, Kashmir under governor Jughead, the ethnic horrors of Sri Lanka under the LTTE and East Bengal genocide under General Tikka Khan. See also How Trump's tariff war dismantled US trade credibility I consider myself a well-wisher of India, and admirer of its ancient past and humanistic ethics, a son of Sindh, who loves the river that gave India its very name (yes, we are industrious too LOL!). Yet I genuinely fear that the quasi-illiterate hate mongers in Modi sarkar, the BJP and the RSS are driving India into a twilight zone of a communal civil war, a Yugoslavia of mega death and tragedy for South Asia's next generation. I doubt if Modi has ever read the works of St. Agustine, but the Christian scholar who lived in 4th century Roman Algeria, said it best – 'if there is not enough time in life to love, how can you find time to hate?'. So, don't be so square Namo, come let us all go to a hippie commune in Lake Tahoe or visit the Scandinavian love shack in Ayia Napa. The moment you charm some nice Swedish girls, you will be transformed into a kinder, gentler lover boy Namo with your 56 inch chest and 66 inch toun! How about a personality makeover from uptight hater to happy camper. Stand Down, 'Pindi

Pak generals should know that a far better-resourced India will respond to every escalation The generals in Rawalpindi GHQ are leading Pakistan down a dangerous path of escalation. After Operation Sindoor successfully targeted multiple terrorist bases inside Pakistan, there were signs that Pakistan's civilian govt was willing to de-escalate. But Pak army swatted such notions aside, vowed retaliation and forced the civilian dispensation to fall in line. This is the real tragedy of Pakistan where the civilian govt has been reduced to a mere rubber stamp by military generals. But the generals must know that in the current round of escalation, cessation of hostilities must come from Pakistan. India has and will respond forcefully to every provocation from across the border. This is the new normal. It needs reminding that the escalation was initiated by Pakistan with the April 22 Pahalgam attack. India only responded with a measured, high-precision operation against the terrorists and their handlers. Yet, Pak generals chose to further increase provocations by trying to target multiple Indian military installations with drones and missiles on the intervening night of May 7-8. That all of them were intercepted and shot down by India's Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems, which included the top-of-the-line S-400, highlights New Delhi's superiority in this regard. In fact, since Balakot 2019, India has spent considerable resources on getting a state-of-the-art air defence grid up and running. Pakistan, which again tried to breach Indian defences at various points along the International Border yesterday, clearly has nothing comparable. Indian forces, in response to Pakistan's failed targeting of military installations, pierced Pakistani air defence systems with Israeli-origin Harop and Harpy drones, knocking out the air defence system in Lahore – reportedly a Chinese-supplied HQ-9. Drones are another area where India punches way above Pakistan. While New Delhi is marching towards becoming a drone manufacturing hub, Islamabad has no comparable industrial depth and can only perhaps rely on Turkish and Chinese drones. Given these metrics, Islamabad can ill afford to carry out a long-drawn conflict with New Delhi. It simply doesn't have the resources. It's actually likely to run out of ammo if it chooses an escalatory matrix. India's solid ordnance base ensures no such concerns. Note also that Pakistan's iron-brother China has been very careful not to get dragged into the conflict. Thus, Pakistan's playing a losing game here. India's economic size, ability to absorb the fallout of conflict, and far greater conventional military depth give it a clear edge. India's consistently stuck to the de-escalatory paradigm. Pak generals should get off the suicide track and stand down now. Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email This piece appeared as an editorial opinion in the print edition of The Times of India.
