‘Real Housewives' bring the drama to our doorstep

Renowned for their glamour — and drama — the cast, by all accounts, flew under the radar when they visited the resort last winter, staying at Eichardt's — including its 240 square metre penthouse, which runs about $10,000 a night. While here, some of the women took a scenic chopper ride with Heliworks, including a mountain-top landing and obligatory glass of bubbles, were frequent visitors to Ayrburn — described in the show as "Queenstown's Culinary Playground" — had exclusive access to Tommy's Margarita Bar, got their adrenaline fix at Oxbow Adventures, sampled the fare at The Bathhouse, and a couple partook in tequila shots via Queenstown Ice Bar's "chilly willy". Former model Krissy Marsh tells Mountain Scene she also "snuck out" on their first night and went to Cowboys. "I had bull shots and partied with all the crew, and I got on the bucking bull. "That was a lot of fun — they didn't put that on the show, though." Marsh rates Queenstown's culinary offering as "the best food that we had basically throughout the whole season", while she's also impressed with our wines and describes the scenery as "breathtaking". But there were also "huge dramas" while here, something Marsh says she gets sick of. "When someone is nasty or someone does something to upset you, you still have to confront them and be with them the next day. "A lot of us are in the same social circles and we have genuine friendships, and that's healing for me." Now in her third season, though, Marsh says the overall experience has been "nothing but positive" for her.

Real Housewives of Sydney's Caroline Gaultier speaks out on 'media smear campaign' following fiery season three reunion
Caroline Gaultier has alleged she was the target of a 'smear campaign' instigated by two castmates ahead of the Real Housewives of Sydney reunion. The season three reunion, which is streaming now on Binge, saw a simmering feud between Gaultier and fellow housewives Terry Biviano and Kate Adams turn vicious. Behind the scenes, the Sydney-based socialite and former model claimed the animosity between the cast bubbled over into the tabloid media, with cast members allegedly planting stories against each other. Gaultier told she has faced legal threats and been the target of hit pieces in the press. "They tried to sue me (and) had a plan to take everybody down," she said. In April, the Daily Mail ran a story claiming Gaultier had been axed from a cast trip to New Zealand due to 'volatile behaviour'. The story also claimed Gaultier flung a stiletto at a producer during production of the season three finale, an allegation the ex-model has emphatically denied. 'It's heartbreaking when you develop friendships and they turn,' she said. '(The stiletto story) never happened.' The mum-of-two told that the Daily Mail did not reach out for comment before running the hit piece. Gaultier revealed that the reason she was suddenly axed from the New Zealand cast trip was because Adams filed a "woke" HR complaint over a 'non-consenting' hug. A mystified Gaultier claimed that she was goaded by producers to reconcile with Adams before being slapped with the humiliating HR claim. 'I was packed and ready (for New Zealand) and then she filed a case for a hug without consent,' she said. Castmate Krissy Marsh has publicly corroborated Gaultier's version of events. 'I can 100 stand by the fact producers asked you (Gaultier) to make up with Kate,' Marsh wrote via Instagram. 'You said a hug fixes everything and when you did that to Kate she went to HR and put in a complaint.' The Real Housewives of Sydney originally went to air on Foxtel's Arena channel in 2017 but did not return for a second season, allegedly due to the viciousness of the fighting. Six years later, Binge picked up the series for a revival that promised to steer the show in a more aspirational direction in line with the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. 'We were told they were taking a new angle, there was no way we would have signed on if it was like the first season,' Gaultier said. But the up-market rebrand was short lived and season three noticeably saw the reality series revert to its darker roots. Gaultier attributed the shift to the return of a producer who had worked on the infamous first season. She also thinks that the show's message about offering a humorous glimpse into the glamorous lives of Sydney's elite has been lost. 'The clickbait became more important than the show,' she said. 'This is Housewives, not Fortnite.' Worse, she left the set in November feeling a complete lack of resolution between the women. 'There's beauty in resolving and fixing the problem to inspire the viewers,' she said. 'The disappointing thing was that nobody stood up and said the truth.' The update comes after the Daily Telegraph revealed production company Matchbox Pictures is working behind the scenes on a spin-off series — Real Housewives Ultimate Girls' Trip — that would combine cast members from the Sydney and Melbourne shows. 'I would have to think long and hard about coming back again,' Gaultier said. "There is no chance of us signing back on if it includes certain cast members." Real Housewives of Sydney fans, her fellow cast members and even the show's reunion host Osher Gunsberg have expressed their frustration that Housewife Nicole O'Neill did not show up for her second reunion in a row – but she insists all is not as it seems. Fans were shocked to discover that O'Neill, who missed last year's reunion episode due to a family commitment and skipped many on-screen activities during this season, would once more miss the show's pivotal reunion episode, available to stream from today on BINGE and Foxtel. O'Neill cops a walloping in the reunion but she has fiercely defended her actions, publicly airing email communications with Real Housewives producers and sharing her side of the story on her website overnight. The online drama comes amid a particularly fiery reunion, which ended with several members of the cast conceding the divisions in the group may be beyond repair. A bitter end – and an uncertain future The reunion ended on an especially sour note, with conflict between Caroline Gaultier and her Housewives allies-turned-enemies Terry Biviano and Kate Adams coming to a head. Gaultier labelled her adversaries 'evil' and called Kate a 'thug in heels,' declaring: 'Once again, nothing is resolved, I want to go home, and I never want to see these two for the rest of my life.' After the two warring parties had hurled abuse at each other, Gunsberg tried to wrap up the reunion by asking where the group could go from here. Even cast peacemaker Sally Obermeder had to concede that things weren't looking good. 'Is there hope for this group of friends?' Gunsberg asked her. 'In my new era of not sitting on the fence? Not really,' she admitted with a shrug. And it appears the drama continued even as the cameras stopped rolling – as the other cast members headed back to their dressing rooms, cameras captured Gaultier fuming to a producer that her experience had been 'disgusting,' she 'didn't even get to say what [she] wanted to say' and asking why she'd bothered turning up at all.
