This loft-style condo in Little Italy has two floors and a ‘stunning' balcony. Is it worth the $840,000 price tag?

#GTAHomeHunt is a series from the Star that gets into the details of real estate listings in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. Have a tip? Email us at social@ Price: $839,900 Neighbourhood: Little Italy X-factor: With an expansive patio and floor-to-ceiling windows, this loft-style apartment offers residents panoramic views of Toronto's skyline and the CN Tower. The one-bedroom condo, located on the eastern edge of Little Italy, stretches almost 900 square feet of living space over two floors. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW Perfect for entertaining, the open-concept living room and kitchen leads to a nearly 300-square-foot terrace. Combined with enormous southern-facing windows, the unit blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor living, according to its listing on The first floor features a living room, dining area, kitchen and powder room — which can be an added bonus for potential buyers looking to host. What's the neighbourhood like? Located on the corner of College and Bathurst Streets, the condominium at 301 Markham St. is one of the only buildings of its height in the area, leaving the view unobstructed, according to Karolina Armstrong, a local realtor who shared her thoughts on the listing with the Star. Armstrong said the unique layout and 'stunning outdoor balcony' jumped out as some of the home's best features but was most drawn to the location. 'It's such a lively area, nice character at that intersection,' she said. 'You're living in a place where people normally come and visit, and it's just part of your everyday life.' The outdoor terrace is large enough to place furniture and entertain, or simply enjoy the sweeping skyline views. The neighbourhood is filled with a mixture of boutique and high-end restaurants but still has essential amenities like grocery stores or pharmacies within walking distance, Armstrong said. The apartment is close to stops along the 511 Bathurst and 506 Carlton streetcar routes and is a 15-minute walk from Trinity Bellwoods Park. Is it priced fairly? Compared to other units on the market, Armstrong said the loft is more expensive in comparison, with a price tag veering into 'two-bedroom territory' and higher condo fees. The added dollars aren't without a reason though. Armstrong said the unit is significantly larger than the average one-bedroom which makes it hard to make an equitable comparison. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW The bedroom connects to a walk-in closet, includes built-in light fixtures and is larger than the average Toronto apartment bedroom, a local real estate agent said. 'There really isn't anything else on the market like it right now,' said Trish Mutch, the property's broker with Keller Williams Portfolio Realty. Mutch added she thinks the unit is priced 'very fairly' for its massive windows and address in Little Italy. Some of the unit's features stand out from others in the building, Mutch said, including an oversized, south-facing terrace with a view of the waterfront. Armstrong said the condo might appeal most to a young professional or hip couple 'that is looking for a unique space and places value on the location,' noting the slightly industrial appearance and exposed concrete ceilings. Potential buyers looking to entertain might also appreciate the unit's 'stunning' terrace, Armstrong added. 'That is such a unique feature to be able to put all that furniture out there on the balcony,' she said. 'It's really unique to be able to to have that size in the city in general.' You can filter by anything (price, lot size, days on market, etc.), draw maps, and even create 'watch areas' for notifications. The interface is straightforward, with listings grouped by city or region in Québec. For buyers, Centris is essential in Québec – almost nothing is sold outside of it. A Montreal broker or a realtor in Canada would tell you to start here if you want Quebec properties. User reviews: Generally, Centris is well-regarded for its completeness. It may seem simpler than some techy apps like HouseSigma, but it's very reliable. Since it's the official MLS for Québec, it has more listings there than any other site. If you're not in Québec, Centris won't be useful – for Ontario or BC,b you would use other sites. DuProprio, or ComFree, is a special site for sellers. It helps people list their homes on their own. The site even has tools like floor plans and tenant screening guides. Some users have reported crashes or glitches, but this is rare for the app. Brokerage Sites (RE/MAX, Royal LePage, etc.): Big brokerages like RE/MAX and Royal LePage have their sites. You can search for properties at and These often mirror the MLS, but sometimes show 'broker-only' listings early. Their apps may offer added perks if you work with those brokers. For example, (Real Estate Wire) is a site by Realty Executives that covers British Columbia. This is essentially the English version of It redirects to now, but it used to be separate. Don't get confused, searches on go to data. This is essentially the English version of It redirects to now, but it used to be separate. Don't get confused, searches on go to data. Kijiji/Craigslist: These aren't official real estate sites. Many Canadians still look at Kijiji or Craigslist for FSBO sales and rentals in the 'Real Estate' section. Use them carefully, as they're not regulated and can be scams. Still, it's free and local-focused if nothing else. These aren't official real estate sites. Zillow's international site lists very few Canadian homes, and Redfin Canada launched in some markets but isn't widespread. They can be a backup, but we recommend the Canadian-specific sites above for up-to-date info. Usability: Haseeb Shaikh, Zolo, and HouseSigma have very polished websites and apps that work well on phones. Centris is clear and simple. Haseeb Shaikh, and DuProprio are easy for their niches (rentals and FSBO). Check their app ratings: for example, HouseSigma's app is rated ~4.8/5 by over 16,000 users, and Zolo's app around 4.1/5. They also appreciate data Reviews of often note how comprehensive it is, though some say it can be slower to load because of its size. DuProprio reviews highlight the good deals but caution that sellers set their prices. As always, no site is perfect – it helps to try a couple and see which style you like. Calgary's 5 most expensive homes for sale right now (May 2025)

A look at 980 101 Street S.W. in Calgary, Alta. ( The Calgary Real Estate Board says home sales in the city decreased again on a year-over-year basis last month amid uncertainty over the economy, while new listings and inventory both grew. The board says 2,236 homes were sold in April, marking a 22.3 per cent decrease compared with the same month last year, as sales in Calgary slowed across all property types. CREB chief economist Ann-Marie Lurie says that while sales have been softening in recent months, activity is still outpacing the levels seen during the economic downturn that plagued the city leading up to the pandemic, thanks to previous migration gains, relatively stable employment levels, lower lending rates, and better supply. There were 4,038 new listings on the market last month, up 15.7 per cent from a year earlier, as the city's inventory reached 5,867 homes for sale — more than double the supply available at the same time last year. The board says the rise in inventory has helped the market shift to balanced conditions, however lower-priced detached and semi-detached properties continue to struggle with insufficient supply. The residential benchmark price was $591,100, marking a 1.4 decrease from April 2024 and a month-over-month decrease of 0.2 per cent. Dreaming of owning a lavish new home? ( To quote Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, 'There's no place like home,' and if she lived in a home like these ones, she may have rushed back to Kansas sooner. Only two of the listings from that article are still up, but now we're back to the other side of the scale and headed just over the Anthony Henday Drive to the city of St. Albert. 'The marked increase in sales and new listings means the busy season has arrived, and with prices on the rise, it's a great time to be on the seller's side,' association board chair Darlene Reid said in the statistics report. 'For buyers, the higher level of inventory available means a better chance of finding your dream home, but with overall inventory still lower than last year, multiple-offer situations are also becoming increasingly common.'
