Antonio Filosa from Jeep is the new Stellantis CEO
Stellantis has announced ex-Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa is its new CEO, replacing Carlos Tavares. Filosa will report to Stellantis chairman John Elkann. A new leadership team will be named shortly for the 14 brands under the Stellantis umbrella. Tavares was ousted from the CEO position following falling sales in the US. The company says Filosa was selected as Tavares's replacement based on his proven track record, and leadership skills. His global management experience was also taken into consideration. Filosa is Italian and joined Fiat in 1999. He eventually became COO of FCA Latin America. In 2021, he became COO for Stellantis South America and then global CEO of Jeep in late 2023. He oversaw the launch of the Jeep Avenger crossover. This EV has driven substantial growth for Jeep in Europe. Filosa also oversaw development of Recon and Wagoneer S. More recently, he launched the new-generation Jeep Compass which should boost Jeep sales globally. Moreover, he briefly held the post of COO for the Americas. There he drove a significant reduction in dealer stock, among other things. Of his new position, Filosa said: 'It is my great honour to be named the CEO of this fantastic company. I am grateful…for the confidence they have placed in me to lead our business during this pivotal time for our industry. 'I have always been inspired by the immense talent, passion and commitment of our people at Stellantis and the power of trusting our teams to achieve excellence. 'We have the world's best and most iconic brands in automotive history and an over 100-year heritage of innovation. 'That legacy, combined with our relentless dedication to giving our customers the products and services they love, will continue to be key to our success.' Elkann said: 'Antonio's deep understanding of our company…and of our industry equip him perfectly for the role of chief executive officer…' 'I have worked closely with Antonio over the past six months… and his strong and effective leadership…have confirmed the excellent qualities he brings to the role. 'Together with the entire board, I look forward to working with him.'

The Recon Will Be Jeep's 'New Defender,' Says Exec
Jeep has a bevy of new product on the horizon, starting with the Compass—which may or may not make it to the US —and soon to be followed by the Recon. Originally scheduled to debut in 2024, the new Recon should finally show up later this year. And Jeep executives are very excited about their next off-roader. In an interview with Autocar , Jeep UK's Managing Director Kris Cholmondeley expressed high hopes for the new Recon. Cholmondeley says it's the model he's "most excited about," and went on to call the Recon Jeep's version of the latest Land Rover Defender. "[The Recon will] take everything that's enduring about the Wrangler and modernize it," he says. "The best example is to look at the old Defender and the new Defender." Photo by: Jeep Although Jeep already has one EV in the Wagoneer S, the Recon will be the brand's first true all-electric off-roader. Although we could see a gas-powered version eventually . The Recon will be similarly sized to the Wrangler Unlimited, and should have similar off-road capability, with big, knobby tires, a fully independent suspension, and an adjustable ride height. It will even have electronic locking differentials. The Recon will ride on Stellantis's modular STLA Large platform, which supports both 400- and 800-volt electrical architectures. Though, Jeep hasn't said which version will be used in the Recon. Although the electric powertrain in the Wagoneer S makes up to 600 horsepower, we don't expect that much power in the Recon. But it still should be plenty powerful. Expect the Jeep Recon before the end of the year, and yes, this off-roader should be coming to the US. Estimates put the early pricing at around $60,000. Edmunds: Five new vehicles arriving in 2025 that were worth the wait
Ready to buy a new car? Well, you might want to wait because there are some cool and compelling models coming soon to a showroom near you. They range from a retro-themed performance sedan with a traditional gasoline engine to a rugged off-road SUV powered by electricity. There's even a pickup truck that offers a gas engine and electric propulsion simultaneously, which could be a game changer. Edmunds' editors highlight what they think will be the most interesting vehicles for car shoppers coming out later this year. 2026 Dodge Charger Sixpack Sedan Maybe you've seen the Charger Daytona R/T, Dodge's new electric performance coupe that draws design inspiration from the classic 1969 Charger. But what if you don't want an EV? And what if you need four doors? Good news is on the horizon, and it takes the form of the 2026 Charger Sixpack four-door sedan equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder gas engine. Dubbed the 'Hurricane,' the engine makes 420 horsepower in standard-output specification, more than the 5.7-liter V8 available in the old Charger. We also expect Dodge will follow it up later with a high-output engine making 550 horsepower. 2026 Honda Prelude The Honda Prelude was a showcase of Honda design and engineering in the 1980s and 1990s. But after the 2001 model year, it disappeared from the automaker's lineup. A quarter of a century later, it's finally coming back. The all-new 2026 Honda Prelude will be a hybrid. We expect Honda will use the hybrid powertrain that it uses in the hybrid versions of the CR-V and Civic. Honda hasn't said how much power it will make or what kind of fuel economy you can expect. However, the Prelude will come with a Honda S+ Shift feature that the company says will make the it more fun to drive than your typical hybrid. 2026 Jeep Recon With few exceptions, most electric SUVs are best driven on the pavement instead of off-road. Jeep plans to change that with the upcoming 2026 Recon, a bold and boxy EV with promising trail-rated off-roading capability and a similar open-air driving experience to a Wrangler. Jeep recently featured the Recon in a commercial starring Harrison Ford. Beyond that, however, the company has provided few details. We don't know how much range the Recon will have or how much it will cost. But we do know it will come with all-terrain tires, skid plates, a power-opening top, and removable windows and doors. And with trail guide maps embedded into the infotainment system and electronic locking axles, the Jeep Recon should be ready to rock on the path less traveled. 2025 Ram Ramcharger Boasting one of the most appropriate vehicle names in history, the Ram Ramcharger is a full-size pickup truck equipped with electric motors and a battery pack. So far, that's just like a Ford F-150 Lightning. The trick is that it also has a gasoline-fueled V6 engine to eliminate the problem of range anxiety. Ram's range-extending powertrain solution sounds complex, but there is a simple explanation of how it works. When the battery is out of charge, the gas engine serves as a backup generator, allowing the Ramcharger to travel an estimated 690 miles before requiring electricity or gasoline to continue the journey. In theory, you can drive the Ramcharger without ever visiting an EV charging station, or you can skip traditional gas stations altogether. Better yet, there aren't any downsides when it comes to capability. Ram says the Ramcharger can tow up to 14,000 pounds and zoom to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. 2026 Rivian R2 Current Rivian trucks and SUVs are expensive, but the upcoming R2 SUV addresses that with a target price of $45,000. Smaller than the existing R1S but equipped with the same rugged, high-tech good looks, the Rivian R2 holds five people and travels more than 300 miles on a full battery. It comes with all-wheel drive and a healthy 9.8 inches of maximum ground clearance to help you out when going off-road. With rear vent windows and back glass that powers down into the tailgate, the Rivian R2 will give the Jeep Recon some competition. Just remember the R2's doors don't come off like the Recon's. As for timing, it should be available in the first half of 2026. Edmunds says We like these five upcoming models for their nostalgic appeal, technological innovation, or promise of fun no matter where you're going or what you're doing. At least one of them, the Jeep Recon, delivers all three of those traits. ____________ This story was provided to The Associated Press by the automotive website Edmunds. 2026 Jeep Recon Rugged Electric SUV Is Getting a Little More Real
Jeep reveals first real images of the Recon electric SUV, due on sale later this year and expected to wear a $60,000 price tag in base form or just south of that mark, prior to any incentives. The rugged Wrangler-sized model, based on the STLA Large platform shared with the Dodge Charger Daytona and Wagoneer S, is expected to receive a 100.5-kWh battery, and offer dual-motor layout in base form. The electric SUV, which will follow the Wagoneer S, will be Jeep's third electric model but only the second to be offered in the US. Many of us didn't expect Europe to receive Jeep's first battery-electric model, or for an electric Wrangler to not be among the first three electric Jeeps. But that's exactly how the automaker's EV strategy is unfolding, so at least they get points for unpredictability and for not recycling old nameplates all the time. And instead of an electric Wrangler, we'll first have to get used to a different boxy and burly model to keep the Wagoneer S company. Following its SuperBowl ad debut with Harrison Ford, the automaker has quietly revealed more glimpses of the Recon, which is due on sale later this year as a 2026 model. The latest images are notable for showing off the removable doors, as well as other near-production design details that haven't been shown to date, while also giving an improved sense of scale for the new model. After all, it's not like there's an old Recon we can compare it to. The newly revealed images give a glimpse of its production-intent grille, which Jeep watchers might note differs quite a bit from the renderings shown in the past. So these photos are the real deal—this is our first non-CGI look at the Recon. Just how serious of an off-road toy the Recon will be remains to be seen. Jeep has been aiming for a more domesticated version of the Wrangler with this upcoming EV, giving it a solid roof and slightly more conventional SUV proportions, along with greater interior space. So it's clear it won't be as spartan as the Wrangler inside, while offering about the same footprint or a slightly larger one. Perhaps it's easier to think of the Recon as an electric Land Rover Defender rival. But the Recon is also getting plenty of items we've grown accustomed to on the Wrangler, including the spare mounted on a swing-open rear gate, recovery hooks front and back, off-road tires, flared wheel arches, and very short front and rear overhangs. So the Recon will be far more useful off-road than the Wagoneer S—this much is clear—but it will still be about the size of the Wrangler when it comes to footprint. The boxy Jeep will be underpinned by the STLA Large platform, also used by the Dodge Charger Daytona and Wagoneer S, which means it could indeed see the massive 100.5-kWh battery underneath. We might have had more modest expectations for its battery pack to make the model more easily digestible as a Wrangler alternative, while also keeping enough space from the Wagoneer S. But buyers these days demand range, and to take it off road it will need to cover some distance first just to get there. Two motors instead of one seem assured in the base model, and combined the two should offer 500 hp or a little less to keep things palatable in everyday traffic, especially in winter weather. A range rating north of the 300-mile mark also seems assured with the 100.5-kWh pack, we expect, though it's worth noting the Wagoneer S only manages 303 miles with the same battery and 600-hp motors. Hopefully the Recon will err on the side of range rather than pure horsepower. When it comes to price, the base Recon should land near the $60,000 mark or just below it, simply due to the cost of the battery and all the beefy hardware on board. This will place it some modest distance away from the plusher and more road-biased Wagoneer S, while also keeping the price of entry fairly realistic. The Wagoneer S electric SUV is barely out but it's already getting massive dealer discounts, having landed with relatively little fanfare in an uncertain EV market. A boxy model positioned just south of it in price should be the ticket for Jeep's electric hopes in America—at least in theory. Will the Recon do well upon its launch later this year, or are EV shoppers in this price range more interested in upscale road-biased models? Please comment below.
