The Who's Masterpiece 'Tommy' Debuts On The Charts — Again
A new version of The Who's Tommy, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra, debuts on two U.K. charts ... More after its Record Store Day 2025 reissue. MARCH 19: Pete Townshend, Keith Moon and John Entwistle of the rock and roll band "The Who" perform in a still from the rock opera movie "Tommy" which was released on March 19, 1975. (Photo by Michael) More than 50 years after it was first released, Tommy is back. The Who's groundbreaking rock opera returns to the charts in the United Kingdom in a slightly altered form, one which is counted as a brand new entity as far as the Official Charts Company is concerned, even though fans of the outfit already know the music. The classic project was just re-released for Record Store Day 2025, and it has once again become a hit. A new version of Tommy, credited to both The Who and the London Symphony Orchestra (or LSO for short), arrives on the U.K. charts this week. The newly-released edition opens at No. 86 on the Official Physical Albums chart and No. 88 on the Official Albums Sales tally. The Who has long been a staple of the U.K. albums rankings, and that's especially true when it comes to physical sales. Throughout the decades, the legendary rock outfit has scored 25 placements on the Official Albums Sales chart, a ranking that only includes pure purchases. When looking specifically at the Official Physical Albums tally, which narrows in on just formats that don't include downloads, that total balloons to 49. This latest iteration of Tommy is now the third version of the project to reach both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts. The original set was, of course, a bestseller upon its initial release. Years later, Tommy – Live at the Royal Albert Hall also made an appearance and spent time on both lists. This time, Tommy was released as a double-colored vinyl offering, with one light blue record and one orange. It was a standout product shipped for Record Store Day 2025, and fans of The Who must have purchased a sizable number of copies to turn it into a bestseller, even if it debuts fairly low on the two lists it reaches. Tommy isn't just any old album. Since The Who first unveiled the rock opera in 1969, the story and its music have been adapted in numerous formats, including a ballet, a stage opera, a feature film released in 1975, and even a Broadway musical. That show was recently revived and it picked up new Tony Award nominations along the way. Clearly, there's an audience for the title, either as a show or an album.

Tina Turner Posthumously Earns A New Hit Song
Tina Turner and Bryan Adams's "It's Only Love" re-enters U.K. charts thanks to Record Store Day, ... More turning the decades-old song into a hit again. American R&B and Pop singer Tina Turner performs onstage at the World Music Theater, Tinley Park, Illinois, June 28, 1997. (Photo by) Years after her passing, Tina Turner remains a beloved superstar, one recognized almost as much for her perseverance and strength as for her music. Fans continue to celebrate her catalog in all kinds of ways, sometimes focusing on one beloved compilation, or a particular full-length that feels especially meaningful. But thanks to Record Store Day, the icon returns to the spotlight with a hit single — and she even claims a new top 40 smash on more than one chart in the United Kingdom this frame. Turner's duet with Bryan Adams, 'It's Only Love,' appears as a winner on multiple U.K. charts this frame. The rock duet launches at No. 27 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts, many years after it was first unveiled. The song also appears on a broader ranking, the Official Singles Sales chart, which includes all formats and is not limited by genre or platform. 'It's Only Love' kicks off its initial run on that tally at No. 50. Adams is one of dozens of artists who joined in on the fun for Record Store Day 2025, a global initiative designed to bring fans back into independent music stores. As part of the celebration, many artists release either brand new tracks or reissue favorites on exclusive, collectible formats. For his part, Adams re-released 'It's Only Love' on a seven-inch vinyl. The special edition of the cut features two mixes: a rock-forward take, while the other — titled the 'Midnight Mix' — is stripped back to highlight Turner's powerhouse vocals. 'It's Only Love' was originally released in 1985, almost exactly 40 years ago. The track served as one of the singles from Adams's album Reckless, which helped define the sound of mid-'80s rock. The hard-charging cut originally peaked at No. 29 on the Official Singles chart in the U.K. and rose even higher in the U.S., perching at No. 15 on the Hot 100. The duet also earned Turner and Adams a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. That honor ultimately went to Dire Straits, but the nod itself was another sign of how huge the track was at the time. This latest hit gives Turner her twelfth placement on the Official Singles Sales chart. By comparison, Adams has reached that tally only five times. On the Official Physical Singles chart, however, he holds the edge, with 18 successes, while Turner hits a new milestone with her tenth showing, this one arriving posthumously.

Record Store Day 2025: A guide to the annual celebration for vinyl lovers everywhere
Record Store Day is Saturday, April 12, when crate diggers descend on thousands of independently owned brick-and-mortar record stores around the world to browse hundreds of new and exclusive vinyl releases by artists big and small. The annual event began in 2008 to celebrate the people who work at and frequent indie record stores. It has since been embraced by musicians and bands of all sizes and genres. 'The whole energy in a record store is just super inspiring. I feel at home,' Post Malone, who is serving as this year's Record Store Day ambassador, said in a statement after being chosen as the 2025 honoree. 'It's really an unexplainable feeling to hit up a shop and dig through crates, just see what grabs your eye. You can be looking for something super specific and end up finding something totally different. It's the best.' Vinyl lovers would seem to agree. While streaming services now account for most of the music industry's revenue, record buying in the United States continues to grow. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, sales of vinyl records outpaced that of CDs in the U.S. for the third consecutive year in 2024. There were 44 million vinyl records shipped last year, compared with 33 million CDs. And revenues from vinyl records grew 7% to $1.4 billion in 2024 — the 18th consecutive year of growth. All of which means it should be another busy day at record shops on Saturday. To find a participating record store near you, check this searchable list. Below is a quick guide to just some of what's in store for those participating in Record Store Day 2025. Austin City Limits, the longest-running music series in television history, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. And Howard, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and Alabama Shakes frontwoman, is releasing her electric 2024 performance on the show for Record Store Day. Speaking of exclusives, Slow Magic is a collection of never-before-released songs by Jeff Bridges (yes, that Jeff Bridges) culled from a cassette tape labeled 'July 1978.' According to notes from the record label, the music sounds like 'The Band playing at CBGB' or 'Arthur Russell and the Talking Heads collaborating on a suite of mutant disco.' And it most definitely doesn't sound like the Eagles. Deadheads have a lot to celebrate on Record Store Day, with four new releases, including this 1976 live recording of the band at New York's Beacon Theatre, available for the first time on vinyl. Ahead of their long-awaited reunion tour, which kicks off later this year, the Britpop band's entire singles collection from 1994 to 2009 is being released on vinyl for the first time since its initial pressing in 2010. The singer and 2025 Record Store Day ambassador is releasing his COVID-era 2020 livestream tribute to Nirvana, which featured Blink-182's Travis Barker on drums and included covers of Nirvana classics like 'Come as You Are,' 'Heart Shaped Box' and 'In Bloom.' All net proceeds from the sale of this record will be donated to MusiCares's addiction recovery and mental health efforts. The A side of the soundtrack to this 1984 cult classic film contains six songs performed by Kilmer, who died earlier this month. (Its release on vinyl for Record Store Day was announced well before his death.) The B side contains selections from the film's score. The Stones have embraced Record Store Day in recent years, and this year they're rereleasing the remastered Out of Our Heads, the 1965 studio album featuring their iconic hit '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.' Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood have new live solo Record Store Day releases too. The biggest and likely heaviest release for Record Store Day 2025, this 1970 live recording by legendary jazz pianist and bandleader Sun Ra spans six LPs and comes in a hardboard box. Swifties like vinyl records too! And 'Fortnight,' from The Tortured Poets Department, is getting the RSD treatment. The exclusive 7" white vinyl release features both the original single featuring Post Malone and a remix by Blond:ish. The soundtrack to the ubiquitous 2024 film adaptation of the musical features 12 songs by Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and the rest of the cast, including one previously unreleased duet. Crucially, the limited-edition double LP released exclusively for Record Store Day was pressed on green and pink glitter vinyl.

Judas Priest Fans Have Been Waiting A Long Time For The Band's Latest Release
Judas Priest will release Live in Atlanta, a 1982 concert recording, as a standalone double LP on ... More Record Store Day—its first time available outside a box set. Judas Priest (Photo by Aaron Rapoport/Corbis via Getty Images) Judas Priest has been going strong as a group for more than 50 years, and the legendary band is still giving fans plenty to get excited about. Following the release of its latest full-length Invincible Shield in 2024 — a global success that proved the act's continued commercial power — the British hard rock outfit is once again offering up something new. Well, sort of. In just a few days, Judas Priest will drop Live in Atlanta, a concert recording that was taped decades ago. It's not exactly new, but the release is a big deal for fans of the band, as it will be available as a standalone set for the first time ever. As part of Record Store Day 2025, Judas Priest will finally give Live in Atlanta the spotlight it deserves. The title will be released exclusively on April 12 at independent music retailers, so fans hoping to grab a copy should plan to show up early. Only 6,400 copies of the double LP are being pressed, and each will come on red vinyl. Live in Atlanta was recorded on December 11, 1982, during the group's World Vengeance Tour. That trek supported its then-current album Screaming for Vengeance, which spawned hits like 'You've Got Another Thing Comin'' and cemented Judas Priest's reputation as one of the most important names in heavy metal. Hardcore fans may already be familiar with this project. It was previously issued as part of the 50 Heavy Metal Years of Music box set, a comprehensive collection that featured dozens of recordings. But until now, the only way to own Live in Atlanta was to buy the entire package. This latest offering marks the band's first 'new' live album since Battle Cry came out in 2016. Live in Atlanta is sure to be one of the most sought-after exclusives of Record Store Day 2025. With just that 6,400 figure being made, the set is still one of the largest pressings planned for the event. If Judas Priest sells even half that number, Live in Atlanta could debut on several Billboard tallies, including Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Rock Albums, and possibly even Top Album Sales. Record Store Day 2025 is set to take place on April 12 at record shops across the U.S.
