Stage 1 fire restrictions begin on the Lincoln National Forest

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The Lincoln National Forest is implementing fire restrictions for visitors. Forest officials have entered stage one fire restrictions due to dry fuel conditions and an increased risk of wildfires across the forest. Under the restrictions, fires, campfires, charcoal grills, and coal and wood stoves are only allowed in designated campsites or picnic areas where state-built rings or grills are provided. Campfires are not allowed at other camping sites. Ruidoso implementing upgraded level of fire restrictions Meanwhile, stoves, lanterns or heaters fueled by propane or other liquid petroleum fuels may be used in areas cleared of flammable materials. Smoking is only allowed in cars, buildings, or developed recreation sites. As a reminder, fireworks are always prohibited on public lands.
