Deshun Avery: Honoring West Texas community heroes during Red Cross Month
This March, we are proud to honor fellow West Texans during our annual Red Cross Month celebration, which started more than 80 years ago with a proclamation signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Last year, in the Panhandle Plains Chapter, which encompasses 44 counties, including our own Hockley County, Red Crossers assisted 194 families after a disaster, helped more than 512 area military community members and provided first aid, CPR and AED training to more than 4,390 people.
During the month of March, the Red Cross is offering free A1C testing (commonly used to screen for prediabetes and diabetes) on blood, platelet and plasma donations. Visit for full details.
Do you know a family who has suffered a home fire or a service member or their family that could use our help? Go to or call us at 806-765-8534 to learn more.
