Oil and gas mixture release reported near Garden Island Bay
PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The U.S. Coast Guard, Spectrum OpCo, LLC, and the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office are responding to an oil and gas mixture release near Garden Island Bay.
Coast Guard officials said the mixture was released in a marsh environment near a Garden Island Bay production facility's well on Saturday, and an overflight 'confirmed the presence of crude oil.'
Construction underway for new Lacombe Nature Park
A Unified Command among the organizations was formed and is working with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Forefront Emergency Management and other agencies on response efforts.
The operator's oil spill response plan has reportedly been activated.
Coast Guard officials said no injuries or wildlife impacts have been reported.

The cause of the release remains under investigation.
