Kuwait Club and Kazma eye Federation Volleyball Cup final as semifinals begin

KUWAIT CITY, May 17: The semifinal matches of the 58th Kuwait Volleyball Federation Cup are scheduled to take place today at the Federation Hall in Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. The first clash kicks off at 5:00 PM, featuring Al-Shabab vs. Al-Qadsia, followed by Kuwait Club vs. Kazma at 7:00 pm. The winners will advance to the final, set to be played the day after tomorrow, while the losing teams will compete for third place. Al-Qadsia reached the semifinals after a 3-1 victory over Al-Arabi in the quarterfinals (set scores: 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17). With hopes of ending the season on a high note, they aim to claim their final title of the year. New Serbian head coach Sinisa Reljić, who recently replaced Bahraini Redha Ali during the Premier League semifinals, looks to start his tenure with silverware by leading the Yellows to victory. Al-Shabab qualified with a convincing 3-0 win over Al-Nasr and is eager to continue their momentum into the final. Kuwait Club, the reigning Super Cup and League champion under Brazilian coach Talmo Oliveira, advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 win over Burgan (sets: 27-25, 25-18, 24-26, 25-17). With sights set on completing a historic treble, the Whites are considered strong contenders. Kazma, led by Brazilian coach Caccarato, is looking to add another trophy after capturing the Federation Championship earlier this season. Kazma earned its semifinal spot by defeating Al-Sulaibikhat in straight sets. The Kuwait Volleyball Federation Cup has been held 57 times before this season. Both Kuwait Club and Al-Qadsia have won the title 18 times each, followed by Kazma with 13, Al-Arabi with 7, and Al-Jahra and Al-Shabab with one title apiece.

Relijec brings significant international experience to the role. His coaching resume includes leading the Serbian U-21 national team, as well as stints with Qatar and Lebanese club Al-Anwar. The club hopes his appointment will mark a turning point in their Premier Volleyball League campaign. Al-Qadsiya looks to end West Asian Volleyball Championship on a high

RIFFA, Bahrain, Feb 13: Al-Qadsiya Club's volleyball team will play its final match in the Third West Asian Clubs Volleyball Championship today at Isa bin Rashid Hall in Riffa, Bahrain. The team will face Iraq's North Refineries at 4:30 pm, with the tournament's curtain closing shortly after, followed by the match between Al-Ahly of Bahrain and Al-Arabi of Qatar at 7:00 pm. Al-Rayyan of Qatar, the title holder of the first two editions, leads the standings with 11 points, followed by Al-Ahly of Bahrain with 9 points, Al-Arabi of Qatar with 7 points, Al-Salam of Oman with 5 points, Al-Qadsiya with 1 point, and Al-Masaf of the North with 0 points. The tournament is organized in a single-round league system, where all teams compete in confrontations. The team accumulating the most points will be crowned the champion. Unfortunately, Qadsiya has faced defeat in all its previous matches against Al-Rayyan, Al-Salam, Al-Arabi, and Al-Ahly. Al-Qadsiya's Coach, Redha Ali, cited multiple reasons for the team's struggle in the tournament, including the injury of Dutch professional player Horst, who broke his finger, prompting a mid-tournament substitution with Bulgarian player Zhdanov—who was then injured during the first match. Coach Ali also noted the demanding schedule, where the team had to play tough matches in a short period, including the opening game against Al-Rayyan, the defending champion, followed by games against Al-Salam and Al-Arabi. He emphasized that the tournament's tight schedule did not work in favor of Al-Qadsiya, leading to a dip in performance.
