Bertha Gxowa Hospital honours top secretary

Refiloe Matobako from the department of administration received the best secretary award at the recent Bertha Gxowa Hospital Excellence Awards. The hospital's CEO, Lebohang Khumalo, who also delivered the keynote address, presented the honour. Fighting back tears as her name was called, Matobako dedicated the award to her late grandmother, who had played a pivotal role in her upbringing. This award is for her,' she said. Matobako was nominated by her supervisor, who compiled her portfolio for review. 'There are times when we come to work, give it our all, and feel unseen. This award proves our efforts are noticed,' she added. Matobako described the support she felt from the audience as she accepted the award. 'The applause was overwhelming. I believe it came from the way I try to go the extra mile for my colleagues, which ultimately benefits the patients we serve.' Her role includes co-ordinating meetings, scheduling boardrooms, and stepping in as the CEO's PA when needed. The CEO told me to keep up the fantastic work. That encouragement meant a lot,' she said. Her journey with the hospital began in 2011 as an administration clerk. In 2017, she was asked to assist in the secretary department, where she now holds a permanent post. 'I'm a proud mother of three, and my eldest is 18. At the end of the day, I look forward to going home to them,' said Matobako.
