Scotland's most shocking crime this week as throat-slit killer dies in jail
These are the biggest crime stories covered by the Daily Record this week.
A killer who slit the throat of his victim dying in prison, a young boy being forced to eat paint and cat food and cars firebombed in Livingston are just some of the crime stories the Record has covered this week.
Throughout the week we also reported on a carer who was struck off for mocking a vulnerable pensioner by taking a photo of them while they were dressed in their pyjamas and using the toilet.

Here are the top crime stories the Record covered from the last five days in Scotland:
Monday
Racist thugs
A pair of racist thugs who jumped on a stranger's head and left him scarred dodged custody after a sheriff said they were "children" at the time of the attack.
Regan Mills, 19, and Declan Buchanan, 19, were ordered to pay £5,000 compensation to their victim after knocking him out cold during the sustained assault.
But the duo - who were part of a gang of youths who attacked Ugur Argavan - walked free after a sheriff told them he was not locking them up because they were 16 at the time.
Supermarket brawl
Two men have been caught on camera brawling near a busy Scots supermarket.
An onlooker captured a street fight between two men at a roundabout outside of the Asda store in Kirkcaldy, Fife.
In the video posted by Fife Jammer Locations, a bald man wearing sunglasses can be seen putting the other man with short ginger hair in a headlock beside a black BMW car, while a woman attempts to restrain the pair.
Attempted murder
Two men were charged with attempted murder after a teenager was left seriously injured at a home in Inverness.
Emergency services were called to Balloan Road in the south of the city following reports of a disturbance at around 9.45pm on Saturday, April 26.
Ambulance crews attended and a 19-year-old male was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Tuesday
Boy fed ceiling paint and cat food
A young boy was fed cat food and ceiling paint during a shocking campaign of abuse, it emerged. The youngster was abused by Yvonne Keenan at her home in Glasgow's Maryhill area, when he was aged between five and eight.
The details emerged when she appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court to admit cruel and unnatural treatment of children. The 56-year-old preyed on the boy, and three other children, between 1994 and 2001.
Keenan's punishment of the children saw them being made to face a wall for long periods of time, while a boy and a girl - now aged 32 - were frequently not fed by her and sent to bed hungry.
Cars firebombed
Shocking images showed the smouldering aftermath of two vehicles which were firebombed in an attack outside a family home in West Lothian.
Firefighters raced to the blaze on Tweed Drive in the Craigshill area of Livingston after receiving the alarm at around 10.30pm on Monday, April 28.
Pictures shared with the Record show the motors engulfed in flames as firefighters battled the inferno.
Carer struck off
A cruel Scots carer was struck off after mocking a vulnerable pensioner by taking a photo of them - while they were dressed in pyjamas and using the toilet.
Cara MacLennan held up a "v" sign as she posed beside the OAP during a shift at Eilean Dubh Care Home in Fortrose, in the Highlands, last February.
The 20-year-old posted the photo on Snapchat and mocked the resident. The caption said: "can't see me ha ha ha. doesn't know what I'm doing".
Wednesday
Fire murder bid
An attempted murder probe was launched following a deliberate fire at a home in the Highlands, it emerged. The incident had taken place in Fort William in the early hours of Friday, April 25.
A girl and woman were inside the property in question at the time, but were not injured in the blaze, and nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.
Thieving gambler
Finance worker David Proudfoot was unmasked as a crooked bookkeeper after pleading guilty to embezzling more than £400,000 - to feed his gambling habit.
He trousered the cash while working at an agricultural consultancy firm. He began transferring vast sums of money from two historic Scots estates into his own account.
And he covered up his deceit by producing fake invoices and using bogus HMRC tax references between 2012 and 2022.
Laughing gas death driver
Washe Manyatelo was jailed for five years for causing the death of Annette Dixon. The 24-year-old struck the frail pensioner after inhaling laughing gas.
He was speeding in a Mercedes C220 and struck the 70-year-old as she crossed a road with her walking stick - after she got off a bus in Edinburgh.
Manyatelo - who fell asleep in a police car following the incident - later refused to provide a blood sample for testing following the tragedy claiming that it was against his religion.
Thursday
Brutal killer dies in jail
Kirk McIntyre died while serving a sentence at HMP Shotts, in North Lanarkshire, it emerged. The 56-year-old was caged for slitting his victim's throat.
He also battered another inmate with a pool cue while in jail. He was serving a minimum of 20 years over the death of Frederick McGettigan in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow.
He carried out the 2017 killing after wrongly blaming the victim for stealing a handbag during a break-in at his cousin's home, and passed away on April 25.
NHS crooks
The crooked directors behind an NHS corruption scandal thought they were untouchable, sources claimed. Adam Sharoudi, 41, and Gavin Brown, 48, were remanded in custody over their crimes.
They were brought to justice following a decade-long probe into NHS contracts awarded to Oricom, their Ayrshire-based firm, in a £6m con.
Gangland enforcers dodge jail
Underworld henchmen Lloyd McKay and Calvin Gilmour were spared jail over a firebomb attack on an innocent couple - whose son had racked up a £100,000 debt.
McKay and Gimour targeted the couple's luxury car as it sat outside their home. A court heard they had targeted the Taysiders on the orders of a Glasgow gang boss.
The bungling duo were caught after one was left with scorch marks on his hands and burnt hair and their escapade was captured on CCTV cameras.

'Evil Jesus' who hired hitman to kill lawyer to remain locked up
An ex-lawyer who claimed to identify as 'evil Jesus' during a dark-web plot to kill a prosecutor will remain at a psychiatric hospital months for further assessment.
Martin Ready, 42, was found guilty of attempting to conspire to murder Darren Harty by using cryptocurrency to pay for a hitman on the dark web following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow last year.
Between May 2021 and September 2022, Ready paid £5,071.24 in Bitcoin and sent instructions for Mr Harty to be shot on a dark website called Online Killers Market, which turned out to be fraudulent.
Ex-Bay City Roller star walks free
A former Bay City Rolle r star accused of stalking and harassing family members has walked free from court after a Crown bungle.
Pat McGlynn was alleged to have followed and spied on his brother John and sister-in-law Yvonne outside their home in Loanhead, Midlothian. Pat, 67, was also claimed to have acted aggressively, gesticulate towards the couple and point a camera that was believed to be recording Yvonne McGlynn at her home.
The musician was said to have carried out the stalking campaign including blocking their driveway and leaving threatening voicemails between October 2020 and September 2021.
Mum furious at school
A furious mum has called on her daughter's school to take action after "40 pupils" watched and filmed her child being brutally attacked by a fellow pupil.
We told how the 12-year-old was battered by another girl who landed blows to her head with her fist while several others watched on.
The girl's mother, Jennifer Storrar, has now spoken out claiming it is not the first time Skye has been targeted at Whitburn Academy, in West Lothian.
