Sophie Andrews shares her love of Jane Austen and Regency wear
It's been almost a decade since Sophie Andrews shared her love for author Jane Austen with the world in a 2017, the 27-year-old from Tilehurst appeared in BBC One's My Friend Jane, having become popular for her blog Laughing With Lizzie and founding the Jane Austen Pineapple Appreciation then she's written a book, Be More Jane, and continues to don Regency-era gowns and discuss her passion for the 2025 marking 250 years since Austen was born, Ms Andrews has been talking to BBC Radio Berkshire about why the author remains relevant to her readers. 'Yep, I'm obsessed' The self-proclaimed superfan got into Regency clothing as a teenager, having been inspired after reading Pride and Prejudice at Andrews first read the book as a nine-year-old and watched the 2005 film version - but it wasn't until she was 16 she started to explore the books more."I was always interested in history and how everything went on back then, from the social customs to the clothing and so I think when I read Pride and Prejudice something just clicked," she explained."Everything from the era, the way Jane Austen wrote her novels - the characters, the story, the wit. Something inside me was like 'yep, I'm obsessed'."Mum thought it was a phase, but it's still going 11 years later." Ms Andrews arrived to the radio station dressed in full Regency-era clothing, explaining the multiple layers involved in dressing authentically - from the chemise to the stays, petticoats and continued: "I tried on my first outfit when I was 18 and I can still remember getting that all together and it was very exciting."I think there's a misconception it isn't comfortable, especially as soon as you say corset, but honestly the Regency corsets are fine." Ms Andrews has a friend who makes her outfits for her, but also said there is a lot to be found for why she thinks people keep going back to read Austen's work, Ms Andrews said: "She paints such a brilliant picture of both Regency England and everyday life. "You can really recognise a lot of characters. I know plenty of Lydia Bennet's and I'm sure we all know a Lady Catherine who likes to interfere a little bit too much. "I think that is why she has endured so much and why she speaks to people." You can follow BBC Berkshire on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.

Bridgerton Season 4 trailer sparks outrage among fans: 'This is ridiculous'
If you've been following the Bridgerton series on Netflix, you're in it for the long haul - literally. The first season of the Regency-era romance was released back in December 2020 - and five years later fans are waiting for Season 4 (following Benedict Bridgerton's love story) to drop. After an initial sneak peak released on Valentine's Day 2025, Netflix just dropped the official teaser for the next installment, featuring Benedict wearing a mask, walking urgently through a masquerade ball. Women around him are vying for his attention, but he stops short as he stumbles upon Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha's character) admiring a chandelier. He continues to watch her in adoration, until a gentleman asks her for a dance. The scene cuts and the words 'COMING 2026' flash across the screen. But rather than react to the scenery or exchange itself, fans focused on one thing: the release date. And they are not happy about it. Fans expressed their anger over having to wait almost two years for a new season of the show Though the teaser didn't specify when in 2026 the season would be released, fans were upset about the wait time in general. The most recent season of Bridgerton (focusing on Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton's romance) was released back in May 2024 - with the second half following a month later. Waiting two years for an eight-episode season doesn't seem to be worth it for a lot of viewers. 'This is ridiculous, I'm sorry eight episodes of TV should not take that long,' one user on X, formerly Twitter, shared. 'Two years for eight episodes,' another posted alongside a meme of a man rubbing his forehead in stress. 'Still absolutely no reason for a show like this to come out every other year,' another angry fan wrote. 'Like wtf is the TV industry.' One fan pointed out that this would mean an even longer wait time for the season after that. Some fans expressed that they wouldn't be interested in the upcoming season, considering how long it's taking Netflix to release it 'If they know what is good for them, they should start acting season 5 now,' they shared. Some fans were so fed up that they expressed they were no longer interested in watching the upcoming season. '2026!? You guys can keep it honestly,' one user said. 'By the time we make it to the last sibling, every single actor on this show will be geriatric and I will be going through my third divorce,' another user joked. Still, despite their frustrations fans seem dedicated to the series, which has reached record-breaking viewership each season. Just a month after its full release, Season 3 Netflix's 10th biggest English-language series ever - clocking in 91.9 million views just at its release. Time will only tell whether fans are truly too upset with the series to engage during its 2026 release - or if they'll begrudgingly open their Netflix and break streaming records once again.

Netflix announces season five and six of Bridgerton
Netflix has announced Bridgerton is being renewed for seasons five and six, while season four is set to premiere in 2026. The period romantic drama, set during the Regency Era in Britain, has been a global hit since it debuted in 2020, with Irish actress Nicola Coughlan among its leading stars. Season four is set to centre on Benedict (Luke Thompson), the bohemian second son. A logline for the series reads: "Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down - until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother's masquerade ball. "While Benedict knows his love interest as only the Lady in Silver, she's actually Sophie, a resourceful maid with her own secrets and dreams." The streaming service released a sneak peek of the newest instalment, showing Benedict seeing his new love for the first time. The Lady in Silver, whose name is Sophie Baek, is played by newcomer Yerin Ha. She said of taking on the character: "What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles - something that she constantly has to overcome. "Whether it's this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict." Thompson said the scripts for season four are "dynamite". "The storyline is a bit of a twist on Cinderella," he said. You remember being told those stories as a child - the magic and the romance of them. "It's really exciting to have that weaved into the world that we know of Bridgerton … It's such a great story, but it's also, I hope, really relatable." New photos from the upcoming series show reunited best friends Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Eloise (Claudia Jessie) promenading in London. "They're more bonded than ever!" showrunner Jess Brownell said. "Their trials and tribulations last season have added new depth to their friendship, and we're excited for viewers to see how their relationship looks now that they've each grown up a little."

When Is 'Bridgerton' Season 4 Coming Out? What to Know About Plot, Cast
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Netflix's Regency-era juggernaut Bridgerton is preparing to turn the spotlight on its most free-spirited sibling: Benedict Bridgerton. While the exact release date for Season 4 remains unconfirmed, multiple production updates and cast revelations suggest the next chapter in the Shondaland series is well underway, with a likely debut in 2026. Fans who watched the romantic evolution of Daphne and Simon, then Anthony and Kate, followed by Colin and Penelope, will now be introduced to a tale centered on love, class and secrecy—modeled after Julia Quinn's 2001 novel, An Offer from a Gentleman. Why It Matters Since debuting in December 2020, Bridgerton has followed a predictable but spread-out release pattern. Season 1 aired in late 2020, followed by Season 2 in March 2022 and Season 3 in May 2024, split into two parts. Each season has focused on the romantic journey of a new Bridgerton sibling, mirroring the structure of Julia Quinn's novels. With Season 4 drawing from the third book, after the show skipped to the fourth novel for Season 3, it re-aligns the series with its original source order. This upcoming season marks a thematic shift as it delves into class disparity and identity through Benedict's unlikely romance with a maid masquerading as a lady. What Period Is 'Bridgerton' Set In? The series is set during the early 1800s, a time commonly referred to as the Regency Era in British history. This period spans from 1811 to 1820, when King George III was deemed unfit to rule and his son, the Prince Regent, governed in his stead. Bridgerton reimagines this historical moment with a modern, inclusive twist, while showcasing the customs, debutante balls, and societal expectations of aristocratic London. Although Netflix has not announced an official release date, indicators suggest a 2026 debut, if following the same schedule as the previous seasons. According to the French publication Allociné, Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope, said in a recent interview that filming began in September and is nearing completion. Actress Hannah Dodd, who plays Francesca, is set to start a stage role in London in late May, suggesting that her filming obligations are coming to an end. Past seasons have required extensive post-production. Season 3 reportedly took 14 months to complete, according to Just Jared. "We're really working on the idea of if this is the field we live in, then how do we make the field faster," series creator Shonda Rhimes told Variety in 2024. "And so we really are thinking about stuff such as permanent sets and lots, and things like that that will really help us speed the process up." The two-year estimate also aligns with showrunner Jess Brownell's estimate of a two-year production timeline. "We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language," Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. What Is the Plot of 'Bridgerton' Season 4? Season 4 will focus on Benedict Bridgerton, the artistic second-born son, and his romantic journey with Sophie Baek, a housemaid hiding her identity. They meet at a masquerade ball hosted by Violet Bridgerton, where Sophie is disguised as a mysterious lady in silver. Benedict becomes smitten, unaware of her social standing. Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict, describes the season as "a bit of a twist on Cinderella," and showrunner Jess Brownell adds that it balances the romantic fairytale with the harsh realities of the era. "You have to hold both of them — the romance and the reality—in your hand. In its best version, 'true love' happens in the middle of that," Thompson told Netflix's Tudum. In a parallel storyline, Francesca Bridgerton appears poised for a queer romance with Michaela Stirling, a gender-swapped adaptation of Michael from the books. "There is going to be a relationship between Michaela and Fran, as per the books," Brownell confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. Who Is in the Cast of 'Bridgerton' Season 4? Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton Yerin Ha as Sophie Baek Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma Victor Alli as John Stirling Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury Julie Andrews as Lady Whistledown Lorraine Ashbourne as Mrs. Varley Masali Baduza as Michaela Stirling Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Bridgerton Hannah Dodd as Francesca Stirling Daniel Francis as Lord Marcus Anderson Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton Florence Hunt as Hyacinth Bridgerton Martins Imhangbe as Will Mondrich Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton Katie Leung as Lady Araminta Gun Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton Michelle Mao as Rosamund Li Emma Naomi as Alice Mondrich Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte Hugh Sachs as Brimsley Will Tilston as Gregory Bridgerton Polly Walker as Portia Featherington Isabella Wei as Posy Li New characters include debutantes Rosamund Li (Michelle Mao) and Posy Li (Isabella Wei), as well as their calculating mother, Araminta. The Li family will debut in the opening episode. How Did 'Bridgerton' Season 3 End? Season 3 focused on Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton's slow-burn romance, culminating in their long-awaited union. It also set the stage for the developments in Season 4. A pivotal moment involved Francesca being introduced to her new husband's cousin, Michaela Stirling. The two share a charged first meeting that echoes Violet Bridgerton's description of love at first sight, hinting at their future storyline. What People are Saying Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024: "I'm really excited about what we're writing. We're toward the end with the writers room season, with the scripts. And I feel like it's some of my best work and my writers room's best work. We've just really gelled our collaboration, and we're firing on all cylinders, so I can't wait for fans to see what we have." Bridgerton series creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes told Variety in 2024: "It takes so long, and that's frustrating to me. To me, we should be able to write and produce shows at the same time, and that's not necessarily possible at this moment. It should be, but it's not." What Happens Next Season 4 will consist of eight episodes and is currently in production at Shepperton Studios outside London. With filming nearly complete, post-production is the next phase, suggesting a long wait before fans return to the ballrooms of Mayfair. Until then, Benedict's romantic reckoning, with all its class tensions, mistaken identities, and masquerade intrigue, awaits.

Leighton Meester Stuns In 'Buccaneers' Season 2 First Look — See The Pics Here!
Much like its main characters, The Buccaneers hit the Apple TV+ scene with flash and fervor. We fell in love with the St. George sisters, longing to see them find romance and (more importantly) true happiness by any means necessary. We embraced each girl in all their messy, shocking, period drama glory. We watched until the very end, desperately wanting more! And after the popularity of the first season, it's no wonder the network renewed this dreamy show for a second season. Keep reading for the latest news. (Note: This contains spoilers about season one's finale!) The Buccaneers season 2 will premiere on Apple TV+ June 18, 2025. Apple shared this exciting BTS clip of our new favorite Regency Era stars having the time of their lives. It's just the boost we need to get through another week! All our favorite cast members are returning for season 2 — and we'll also see Leighton Meester! 'I was so happy to come on to play any role!" Leighton TV Insider. "That being said, this is the best possible role that I could have ever asked for, and it's going to be a secret until it comes out. Trust me, it's worth the wait.' Here's the full Buccaneers season 2 cast list: Josie Totah as Mabel Elmsworth Aubri Ibrag as Lizzy Elmsworth Kristine Frøseth as Nan St. George Imogen Waterhouse as Jinny St. George Barney Fishwick as Lord James Seadown Guy Remmers as Theo Josh Dylan as Lord Richard Marable Mia Threapleton as Honoria Marable Alisha Boe as Conchita Glosson Leighton Meester We shouldn't be so pressed to discover easter eggs about season 2 of The Buccaneers, but we are! Thankfully Kristine Frøseth revealed the ways she differs from her character Nan St. George and what viewers can expect to see. Though Nan is often seen wearing corsets, Kristine prefers a more casual look. "She's very constricted," the actress said of her character (via ). In terms of what to expect this season, Kristine didn't reveal season 2's plot (sorry fans). She did say, however, the characters won't be in close proximity like they were in season 1: "I think our characters just are a little bit more separated so we're not seeing each other as much. Last time, we all lived in the same building and it felt like college, and now our storylines are a little bit more spread out...I think that's the biggest change." We had the opportunity to speak with series creator , and she shared her enthusiasm about creating such a riveting period drama. "We're really excited for people to sort of get to know the world of it and meet these women and experience the female friendship of it," she says, hoping viewers "come out of it going, 'Wow these do feel like people that I know." Now that The Buccaneers is renewed for another season, she told , "We know season one left audiences desperate to know what's next for our buccaneers, so I'm absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to explore the further adventures of this smart, joyful, messy sisterhood.' In the same , Jay Hunt admitted, "...we're excited to be working with Katherine Jakeways and The Forge again on the next adventure for Nan and her friends." If you ask us, it sounds season two of The Buccaneers is off to a great start! Viewers watch as Nan St. George took a step back in order for her sister Jinny to have a chance to be happy. This leaves her in the position to move forward with her marriage to Theo, Duke of Tintagel, but it appears she her birth mother may be closer than she realized. Our other characters — like Mabel and Honoria — are left to decide how they want to live their lives as well. It was a shocking cliffhanger and we can see why fans are thirsty for more. All eight episodes of The Buccaneers are available to stream on Apple TV+. Just be sure to bake a few and grab a glass of to have while you binge watch them.
