Urgent care clinic expands Medicaid acceptance to four states
JOPLIN, Mo. — A Joplin urgent care commemorates one year of operation.
The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce joined AFC Urgent Care Joplin for a ribbon-cutting ceremony this afternoon. AFC has seen a steady rise in patient volumes over the past year—treating lots of illnesses over the fall and winter, with injuries ramping up during the spring and summer.
Clinic Director Reilly Allmoslecher says urgent care facilities take pressure off of emergency rooms by serving patients who need same day care but can't get into their primary doctor.
'So instead of making the patient wait for hours in the ER and get stuck with a big bill, when they could've been seen somewhere else, we're filling that void. So, we can see minor injuries and illnesses, and a lot of times we can screen and say is it really worth an ER trip, or is it something that we can address here,' said Allmoslecher.
AFC has applied for approval to accept Oklahoma and Arkansas Medicaid and already accepts patients with Missouri and Kansas Medicaid, as well as private insurance and office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 8 to 5 on weekends.
