Senior Trump DOJ official expected to depart, run for Texas AG

Senior Department of Justice official Aaron Reitz is expected to depart the Trump administration as soon as next week and pursue a run for Texas attorney general, according to two people familiar with the situation. Reitz currently serves as the assistant attorney general for the DOJ's Office of Legal Policy. Confirmed at the end of March on a party-line vote, Reitz has focused at DOJ on recommending legal actions aimed at pushing corporations to end certain DEI initiatives, as well as other priorities. Trump described Reitz as 'a true MAGA warrior' when announcing his nomination in December. Prior to the DOJ, Reitz served as chief of staff to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and also worked as Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's deputy. Paxton recently announced a challenge to Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas. Reitz, the DOJ, and the White House did not respond to requests for comment. The Office of Legal Policy plays a key role at the DOJ: Reitz and his team not only advise Attorney General Pam Bondi, but also work with Congress and are often involved with helping select federal judges. Reitz is expected to enter what could become a crowded attorney general race in Texas, though it remains wide open as of now. Republican state Sen. Mayes Middleton announced his bid for the post a few weeks ago. John Bash, one of Elon Musk's lawyers, briefly entered the race but dropped out last week, citing a health scare in his family. It remains unclear who Trump will nominate to replace Reitz. Reitz came under scrutiny for thousands of deleted social media posts during his confirmation process, CBS News reported.

Oregon baseball wins road series at Michigan State

Oregon baseball wins road series at Michigan State There are much easier ways to win a weekend series, but Oregon Ducks baseball didn't choose the easy route at Michigan State. Oregon dropped the Friday opener 2-0 despite a pitching gem from Grayson Grinsell. Unfortunately for the Ducks, the Spartans' ace, Joseph Dzierwa pitched just a bit better to get the victory. Oregon rebounded from that rare shutout loss to take the series by winning Saturday's game easily 13-5 and then received another gem on the mound from Jason Reitz to take the rubber game, 3-1, Sunday. Reitz is becoming a very reliable Sunday starter, which is going to be a huge bonus when the NCAA tournament rolls around. He pitched into the seventh innings, allowing just a run on three hits and striking out four. It was his third win of the season. The offense scored just enough to support Reitz' efforts. Burke-Lee Mabius' run-scoring double put the Ducks on the board in the second and then in the next inning, Oregon made it 2-0 thanks to a wild pitch that scored Parker Stinson. After that, it was all Reitz. It remained 2-0 until the Spartans got on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly. Oregon was in trouble of giving up the lead in the seventh as Reitz ran out of gas. Reliever Cole Stokes came in with the tying run in scoring position, but coaxed Michigan State into a ground out and a strikeout to end the threat. Stokes found himself in trouble again in the eighth as the Spartans managed to have runners on first and second with two out, but the right-hander whiffed Randy Seymore to get out of said trouble. Oregon added some much-needed insurance with a solo homer from Anson Aroz to left field. Up 3-1, closer Seth Maddox came on and earned his fourth save of the season. There wouldn't be any anxious moments for the Ducks on Saturday as they hit four home runs, two coming off the bat of Mason Neville. The game was knotted up at 4-4, but after that, Oregon scored in every inning to put the home team away. Jacob Walsh and Aroz also hit big flies in the winning effort. Oregon is now 33-13 overall and 16-8 in Big Ten play. It has two more league series remaining with Washington and at Iowa before the conference tournament.

EEX bourse saw 16% revenue growth in 2024 as power volumes grew

FRANKFURT, April 28 (Reuters) - The European Energy Exchange's (EEX) revenue rose 16% last year, mainly driven by higher electricity trading volumes in its European, North American and Japanese markets and with new international trade participants joining, it said on Monday. With 80 new participants joining last year, there are now 950 members active in power, gas, environmental products, freight and agriculture, as well as related clearing services on the EEX. Last year's revenue grew to 669.9 million euros ($760 million) from 575.6 million euros in 2023, said EEX, which grew out of a Germany-based electricity bourse founded 25 years ago and is a part of Deutsche Boerse ( opens new tab. Adjusted net income rose 15% to 241.9 million euros. "It's inspiring to see the continued significant volume growth across our markets," EEX CEO Peter Reitz said. "This year, we will expand our position as the leading global power trading platform." Revenue from European power derivatives in 2024 rose 58% to 194.0 million euros, while spot power market revenue was up 18% at 102.2 million euros, the EEX reported. Revenue from U.S. commodities was up 4% at 41.3 million, and from natural gas derivatives in Europe by 5% at 30.7 million euros. In the first quarter of this year, the EEX expanded European power futures trading volumes by 29%, those of European spot power by 10%, and spot gas by 19%, it said. The EEX introduced new products in 2024 including Nordic zonal power futures and Spanish Monday-through-Sunday solar peak futures. Separately on Monday, it announced it will launch new futures contracts for the EU Emissions Trading System 2 (EU ETS2) on July 7, subject to regulatory approval. Reitz also said he is observing a continued shift from over-the-counter trading to cleared exchange markets, especially in the European core power markets, where EEX holds market shares of 80-90%. Honoring Japanese Americans forced to leave Bainbridge Island during WWII

The Brief The Bainbridge Island Japanese Community held a commemoration on Sunday to mark 83 years since Japanese Americans were forcibly removed from their homes during WWII. The event included speakers sharing stories, reading the names of the 276 displaced individuals, and placing origami cranes as symbols of peace and healing. Carol Reitz, a third-generation Japanese American, emphasized the importance of remembering history and its connection to present-day issues. BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA - It's a place that holds powerful and painful memories of the past. During WWII, on March 30, Japanese Americans from Bainbridge Island were forced to leave their homes and head to the dock where the Japanese American Exclusion Memorial is now located. The backstory On Sunday, they held a commemoration ceremony to remember and honor those individuals. The event marked 83 years since this happened. Some say, given the current political climate, it seems as if history is repeating itself. "At that time, they had no idea where they'd be going, how long they'd be gone and if they could come back," Carol Reitz, President of the Bainbridge Island Japanese Community said. The families were forced to leave for three years. "This year's theme was a place to call home," Reitz said. Multiple speakers shared their story and the stories of those who came before them. They also read the names of the 276 people who lived on Bainbridge Island, and placed origami cranes, which is a symbol of peace and healing. "Bainbridge Island was one of the most welcoming places for people to return to once they were released from the concentration camps. They had the highest percentage of people who were able to return home," Reitz said. She's a third generation Japanese American. Her parents and grandparents were imprisoned in 1942. She told FOX 13, talking about what happened then helps everyone have a better understanding of the generations before them, like her dad. "We're grateful for all the people who want to know and learn more and understand the connection with what happened then and what's happening today," Reitz said. A time in history that's never too far from the minds of those impacted by it. "The issues are still relevant even more today, which is kind of sad," Reitz said. Lufthansa elevates luxury travel with new Allegris First Class cabin

MUNICH, Germany -- Lufthansa is elevating its premium travel experience with the introduction of the Allegris First Class cabin, featuring a completely redesigned cabin interior for long-haul flights. While the only Allegris-equipped route to Asia currently serves Shanghai, the German airline has expressed a strong commitment to expanding its premium offerings to Incheon in the near future. During a special event at Munich International Airport on Wednesday, where Lufthansa showcased its Allegris First Class cabin to private members and the media, Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter outlined the carrier's ambitious vision. "Even during challenging times like the pandemic, we never stopped investing in our customer journey. With Allegris, we are fully prepared," Ritter said. "Since its launch last May, Allegris has served half a million travelers, with 90 percent reporting satisfaction and saying they would book again." Promising enhanced quality and efficiency while ensuring a seamless premium travel experience, Ritter emphasized that the January launch of the Allegris First Class cabin aims to deliver "exclusivity" and "excellence" to travelers. According to Lufthansa, the Allegris First Class cabin is available for booking on Munich routes to San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, Shanghai and Bengaluru, starting March 30. Chief Customer Officer Heiko Reitz hinted at the airline's future expansion into Korea. "We are very much looking forward to introducing Allegris service to Korea in the coming years, although the exact timeline has yet to be finalized," Reitz said. He also highlighted Lufthansa Group's growing commitment to the Korean market, referencing last year's launch of direct Seoul-Zurich flights via Swiss, a Lufthansa Group airline. Lufthansa sees strong growth potential in Korea's business travel sector and aims to strengthen connections with Korean passengers, he added. Stepping into the cabin, each suite offers a nearly one-meter-wide seat that can be adjusted for heating or cooling. The private compartments feature ceiling-high walls, a lockable door, a personal wardrobe and a 43-inch entertainment screen with wireless headphones. The more luxurious Suite Plus provides a double suite with two wide seats that can convert into a spacious double bed, providing a private-room experience in the sky. "After the pandemic, we've observed a rise in individual leisure travelers seeking premium experiences, in addition to our strong base of business travelers. Our Allegris offers a range of seating options for all, with a sharp focus on 'individuality,'' Reitz explained. As part of its "Future Onboard Experience" project, Lufthansa is revamping its long-haul services, from in-flight meals to bedding and amenity kits. These upgrades are set to coincide with its 100th anniversary celebration in April next year.
