SPS students get donated bikes for easier travel
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Students at Springfield Public Schools (SPS) with difficulty in getting to school are receiving assistance with a way to travel. The North Springfield Betterment Association (NSBA) has been donating bicycles to give them a way to get them to school.
The NSBA donated 23 bikes on Monday making the total of 82 bikes already sent to the school. This has been through the Removing Obstacles to Academic Development (R.O.A.D) project
The goal of the project has been to get students the tools they need to arrive on time and are ready to learn.
'Helping build the R.O.A.D. committee from the ground up has been an incredible journey. We started with little funding and a big dream to give kids the bikes they need to get to school. One student's story, about how a bike helped him improve attendance, join sports, and get a job, sparked a movement we couldn't have imagined.
