11th annual 'Paws for Laws' for New York State Police K-9 Unit
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM)— 'Paws for Laws' is hosting a fundraiser for the 11th year to support the New York State Police K-9 Unit at Troop E in Horseheads.
The fundraiser will occur on May 17th from 4 pm to 7 pm at 6 Prospect Rd at the Horseheads Elks Lodge 2297.
Admission is $15 unless you bring a bag of dog or cat food. According to the event coordinator, the donations will be given to the rescues and the SPCA.

'New York State allocates certain dollar amounts for them. New York State covers the food, the medical, all of that, but the handlers have to pay for the toys and stuff like that. So I just think that the handlers shouldn't have to pay for anything else out of their pocket,' said Renee Chalk, Event Coordinator.

Proceeds from the live auction will go to support the handlers. The fundraiser will include K-9 demonstrations, a live auction, raffles, and a chicken barbecue. The Sam Pallet band will also be performing.
'We've gone through some changes in our community, so I just think that it's better and that the police officers, if they have a canine unit as their partner. People are less likely to act out with the dog present,' said Renee Chalk.
