Family searches for answers two years after Renton man disappears
The Brief It has now been two years since a young Renton man disappeared. His family flew to Seattle to keep searching for answers. They tell us his story, and ask the public for help if they know anything. RENTON, Wash. - This week marks two years since a Renton man, Michael Ash, disappeared. It's been two years since his family was left with so many lingering questions. Two years of his family not knowing what happened to Michael. "I wouldn't wish this on anyone," Kelly Ash, Michael's mom, said. She told FOX 13, Michael is brilliant, has a Master's degree, speaks three languages, writes music and books and was even published in college. They're sharing his story once again in hopes of getting the word out and renewing any possible interest. "The last thing he said to me was 'I love you, but I don't know when I'll see you again,'" Ash said. She said it was obvious Michael was in some kind of distress. She and her husband flew from Massachusetts to Seattle to check on their son, but he was nowhere to be found. That was two years ago this week. Below is a post from Renton Police in the immediate days after Michael disappeared in 2023. "He's terribly missed," Ash said. She told FOX 13, she believes her son had some type of mental breakdown. "I think he was searching for peace. You hope one thing, to me it's pretty possible that he could still be alive at this point, but things happen, miracles happen, sometimes people show back up," Ash said. To honor Michael, his family goes to Ron Regis Park in Renton, where some of his belongings were found two years ago. They then travel to the bottom of the Cedar River Trailhead, where his backpack was also later found. "I guess they went out there with drones and sonar and divers even I believe, boats, cadaver dogs," Ash said. But there was no Michael. Ash and her sister, Paula Donovan, said the past two years have been horrendous, and not knowing is almost harder than knowing what happened. "We just need to know if he's still out there or if he's not. It would be everything to us to know that," Donovan said. "If he knew how devastated people have been…I wish he knew that because I think he thought he was a little bit of an outsider and I don't know maybe that would've made a difference. I don't know," Ash said. "Come home, we love you, we'll get you help." Michael's wife still lives here in Seattle. His mom and sisters traveled to Seattle during this time last year to honor Michael and then again, this year, but they told FOX 13, this might be the last year they come unless something changes. Search is on for killer of 15-year-old Renton boy
A 15-year-old Renton boy was shot and killed during a shootout this weekend. A grandmother describes the terror of being caught in the crossfire with her grandson. The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. Sunday. Two teenagers were shot, and the driver sped off, with one of the teens dying in the back seat. The driver ended up in a Les Schwab parking lot, trying to get that wounded teenager to the hospital. Sadly, he died right there. KIRO 7 talked to a woman who thought she and her grandson might be hit, too. 'And bullets... just going,' said Jolandia Thomas. 'They just drove up 'pow, pow, pow, pow, pow' — and then they went down, 'pow, pow, pow, pow!'' That is how Thomas describes what happened right before her eyes on Sunday. She and her 5-year-old grandson were returning to their home near Bronson Way Northeast, caught in the crossfire between two vehicles. 'And so, I took my grandson and I dove on him,' she said. Renton police say two 15-year-old passengers in the back seat of this gold 2000 Dodge Intrepid were shot. The driver sped down the hill, racing to the hospital, but they couldn't get there in time. 'Unfortunately, a 15-year-old died at the scene,' said Meeghan Black, a spokeswoman for Renton Police. 'There was another 15-year-old that was struck. He was rendered aid, rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where, thankfully, he was in stable condition last night.' Black says the shooting was not random. 'Officers believe this was a targeted shooting,' she said. 'And we do not feel there is any more danger to the public.' Still, they do not know who the shooter is. Jolandia Thomas was asked how she was faring after the incident. 'I'm not doing well,' she replied. 'I feel real unsafe. I am scared, and I am trying to keep it together.' Thomas was so frightened that she had to be taken to the hospital because of a heart condition, but she says her greatest fear was not for herself, but for her grandson. 'All I could think in my mind was cover him,' Thomas said, 'so a bullet won't hit him.' Renton police tell us one person in the vehicle was the victim's brother. KIRO 7 determined the Dodge Intrepid is registered to an 18-year-old woman who lives in Puyallup. A relative said by telephone that the woman was spending time in Renton with her boyfriend. Someone who watched surveillance video said a woman was in the parking lot, but no one knows whether she is the vehicle's owner. Renton police have asked that anyone with information email crimetips@

Several Western Washington dental offices receive threatening letters
Several dental offices in the Western Washington area have received threatening letters in the mail. The messages in those letters are disturbing, but whoever wrote and sent those letters is urging dentists to end their lives. Jennifer, who we are not revealing her last name or the dentist office she helps manage in Redmond, received one of those threatening letters. 'Thank you for all that you do. Every dentist needs to kill themselves. Dentists are lying ******* and scam artists who torture kids,' she read to KIRO 7. Jennifer says this is something that has never happened in her career. 'It was scary because my name is on the envelope. So, whoever did this went to great lengths to find out my name and where I worked,' she said. Jennifer was just one of the people KIRO 7 spoke with about the alarming letters. A Seattle-based dentist, who didn't want to be identified, also shared what the letter said. She also reported what happened to Seattle Police. 'You should kill yourself immediately and save humanity from another worthless dentist. Dentist's suicide rates aren't high enough,' she read. The news of these letters has quickly spread amongst the dentistry community in Western Washington. Based on what has been shared with KIRO 7, there appears to be a pattern with these letters. Each one is believed to be sent from the Spokane area and each one has the same fake name and a similar address. Seattle, Renton and Redmond have received reports about these alarming letters. So far, no suspects have been identified and investigators do not believe there is a threat to the public. A spokesperson with Renton Police says if a person is caught doing this, they could be charged with harassment, depending on how the victims feel. If this person specifically threatened a person's life, it could be considered assault. 'This isn't a joke. These are people's lives and it's not funny,' Jennifer said.
