It Looks Like Taylor Swift Won't Be Releasing "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" — Here's Why

It's a great day for Taylor Swift fans — kinda? The Grammy-winning singer posted on Instagram today that — surprise! — she now owns all of her music again. If you recall, there was a whole to-do about Scooter Braun supposedly buying her masters, which meant that, essentially, Taylor's music didn't belong to her. That caused Taylor to re-record several of her albums, calling them "(Taylor's Version)." But now, it appears that it won't be necessary for Taylor to re-record any more of her discography. View this photo on Instagram "You belong with me," Taylor wrote in the caption of her Instagram post, which includes photos of her with all of her old albums spread out around her. She also dropped a letter on her website explaining what this all means, and that's the part that has fans conflicted. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs ... To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it." You can read the full letter on her website. Taylor then goes on to talk about the project that her fans have been eagerly awaiting for many months now: Reputation (Taylor's Version), or Rep TV for short. "I know. I know. What about Rep TV?" she wrote. "Full transparency: I haven't even re-recorded a quarter of it. The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it." Related: 28 Celebs Who Never Seem To Get Canceled Despite Some Pretty Awful Behavior This news shocked fans, many of whom have assumed that Rep TV was already recorded, and have been trying to guess for a while now when it will be released. While fans are thrilled that Taylor owns her music again, there's definitely an undercurrent of slight disappointment that the sleeper-favorite album won't get a re-release. Taylor did note in her letter that she has finished re-recording her debut self-titled album, which she hinted that she might release sometime in the near future. And concerning Rep TV, she also mentioned that, "There will be a time (if you're into the idea) for the vault tracks from that album to hatch." She even suggested that she may revisit her re-recording of Reputation and release it, so there's still hope. In any case, if you're a Swiftie, congratulations — you can now listen to those original albums on Spotify guilt-free, knowing that they're back in Tay-Tay's posession. Taylor Swift Drops Her Biggest 'Reputation (Taylor's Version)' Easter Egg Yet In 'The Handmaid's Tale'

She might have taken something of a hiatus following her headline-making, billion-dollar Eras tour, but Taylor Swift, the doyenne of easter eggs, is at it again. This time, she's tapped one of popular culture's buzziest TV shows, The Handmaid's Tale, to premiere her long-awaited re-recording of her 2017 album Reputation's lead single 'Look What You Made Me Do.' FIND OUT MORE ON ELLE COLLECTIVE The track aired during the latest episode of The Handmaid's Tale, with fans deducing that the song's premiere must signal that a release date for Reputation (Taylor's Version) is finally on the horizon. In the clip from the latest episode of the hit series, which premiered on May 19, Swift's re-recorded single provides the soundtrack to a group of women, led by Elisabeth Moss' June Osbourne, narrowly avoid truck bombs as they stage their uprising against the oppressive regime of Gilead. The day after the episode's release, Moss told outlets that it was an 'honour' to get to use one of Swift's songs during such a pivotal point of The Handmaid's Tale's final season. 'I've been wanting to use a Taylor song for many years on the show and we finally found the perfect spot for a track from her,' Moss told Billboard on May 20, 'and I'm so glad we waited because there could not be a more perfect song for a more perfect moment.' This isn't the first time Swift has teased the re-release of her album; in 2023, she also loaned 'Delicate (Taylor's Version)' for use on the second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. Donald Trump Says Taylor Swift Is No Longer Hot

The President of the United States of America just posted about Taylor Swift... again! If you remember, in September 2024, President Trump posted "I HATE TAYLOR SWFIT!" a few days after Taylor announced that she planned to vote for former Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz. After Harris's Sept. 10 debate victory, Taylor shared a post on her Instagram. She wrote, "I'm voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them," Swift wrote in part in the Instagram post. "I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos." In an interview on Fox News' Fox & Friends, President Trump claimed he was "not a Taylor Swift fan" and suggested that "she'll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace" but based on her tour sales and record-breaking numbers, she didn't. Now, the US President has hopped back onto his Truth Social platform to give an update on where he's at with Taylor Swift — unprovoked, mind you. "Has anyone noticed that, since I said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she's no longer 'HOT?'" he wrote. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that he's referring to her popularity. According to Forbes, Taylor has a net worth of $1.6 billion, and is one of the wealthiest female musicians in the world. Perhaps, Taylor is remaining low-key this year because she just concluded a 149-date Eras Tours in December 2024, which as Variety reported, also set a record as the music inudstry's first $2 billion tour. The reactions online have been swift (pun intended). Here's some of what people are saying: This person pointed out that "not a single soul" was talking about Taylor Swift when the president decided to bring her up. This person said, "presidents shouldn't be obsessing over pop stars there's bigger things to worry about." "Are you sure this is a real head of state and that there are people actually following his orders? It must be really embarrassing for the Americans," another user wrote. Someone said, "he has talked more about taylor than america itself atp talk about obsession." Perhaps this is a sign that we are moments away from the Reputation (Taylor's Version) announcement? We can only hope. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.

Taylor Swift Update Could Cause Major Concern for Future Album Release

Taylor Swift's fans have been eagerly awaiting "Reputation (Taylor's Version)," but a critical deadline is approaching. The "Love Story" singer has until Aug. 16 to release the album or provide evidence of its commercial use to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Failing to do so could result in the loss of exclusive rights to the "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" name. While the music itself remains hers to release at any time, the album name and branding could be compromised if the deadline isn't met. With no official release date announced, fans are growing anxious. Could this legal technicality be the reason behind the delay, or a sign that the album may not arrive as expected? If Swift does not meet this deadline, the trademark application will be considered abandoned, and she will need to refile and restart the process. In 2019, the 35-year-old singer announced her plans to re-record her first six albums in order to regain artistic and financial control after her former record label, Big Machine Records, sold them in a reported $300 million deal. She signed with Big Machine in 2005, which is owned by Scooter Braun. Her first six albums include her self-titled debut album "Taylor Swift" (2006), "Fearless" (2008), "Speak Now" (2010), "Red" (2012), "1989" (2014) and "Reputation" (2017). All of them have been re-recorded and released between 2021 and 2023, except "Reputation" and her self-titled album. These re-recorded versions are labeled "Taylor's Version" and include bonus tracks. She owns the masters for her "Taylor's Version" albums, but they are distributed under her current label, Republic Records. She signed with them in 2018 after her contract expired with Big Machine. Although Big Machine owned the masters, Swift retained the publishing rights to the albums due to her role as the main songwriter of all of the songs she had released under the label. This allows her to re-record the songs in the future if she desires. The Grammy-winner would not have been able to re-record her musical work had she not been a songwriter. Taylor's trademark attorney filed requests for the fifth and final extensions for both "Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version)" and "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" on Jan. 23, according to Gallium Law. One valid reason why Swift hasn't yet re-recorded the 2017 album and her self-titled debut album could be her demanding schedule over the past two years. From March 2023 to December 2024, she embarked on her "Eras Tour," performing 149 shows across five continents. The singer also released her 11th studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," in April 2024, which also included a double album surprise release, "The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology." Given these commitments, it's understandable that the re-recordings might have been delayed. However, with the Eras Tour concluded, "TTPD" released and this legal deadline swiftly approaching, fans are hopeful that "reputation (Taylor's Version)" and "Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version)" will be her next focus.
