Dh3,000 fine in UAE: Abu Dhabi reminds motorists to give way to emergency vehicles, avoid penalty
Abu Dhabi has launched a campaign to urge motorists to give way to emergency vehicles on the roads, the emirate's transport authority announced.
The awareness campaign, titled, 'Giving way to emergency vehicles', aims at ensuring that these vehicles reach accident sites swiftly in order to save lives and property.
As per UAE law, a Dh3,000 fine will be imposed against anyone who does not give way to emergency, ambulance and police vehicles. Offending drivers will also be penalised with six traffic points and their cars will be confiscated for 30 days.
Meanwhile, a Dh1,000 fine and four black points will be imposed against motorists who are found obstructing authorities from regulating traffic and impeding rescue vehicles during emergencies, disasters, crises and rains, and in flooded valleys will be fined Dh1,000, along with four black points, and 60-day confiscation of vehicles.
The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence has in the past issued a reminder to warehouse owners about obstructing entrances and not leaving enough space for Civil Defence vehicles to manoeuvre between warehouses under Resolution No.24 of 2012.
The authority also warned against obstructing access to these areas in a manner that disrupts their functionality. These acts can lead to a penalty of Dh50,000.
The current campaign focuses on raising awareness through various media channels, in addition to organising field events and awareness lectures targeting drivers and different segments of society.
The authority also aims to clarify traffic laws related to giving way to emergency vehicles and the penalties for obstructing their movement, in order to achieve the highest safety standards.
