BIR extends availment period for estate tax amnesty until June 16

The deadline for the availment of estate tax amnesty has been moved from June 14 to June 16, 2025, the Bureau of Internal Revenue said on Wednesday. 'Ang deadline ng pag-avail ng estate tax amnesty ay supposedly June 14 na, ang June 14 ay sa Sabado kaya naman ayon sa batas ay next working day ang magiging deadline kaya naman ang final deadline natin is June 16 o Lunes,' said BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. in Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon. (The deadline for the availment of estate tax amnesty was supposedly on June 14, but it falls on a Saturday. Per law, the final deadline now would be on Monday, June 16.) The amnesty covers the estate of individuals who passed away on or before May 31, 2022, regardless of whether assessments had been issued or not, provided the estate taxes remained unpaid or had accrued as of the said date. Under RR No. 10-2023, the Estate Tax Amnesty Return can be filed and paid electronically or manually, by the executor or administrator, legal heirs, transferees, or beneficiaries at any authorized agent bank; through Revenue Collection Officer of any Revenue District Office; or authorized tax software providers. The BIR added authorized agent banks have extended their banking hours until 5 p.m. since June 4 for the availment of the estate tax amnesty. 'Well, ang layunin nito ay mas masigurado na mas marami tayong ma-accommodate na mga taxpayers dahil sa mga nakaraang linggo nakita natin na dagsa ang mga tao na pumupunta sa aming opisina. So, ito para mas bigyan nang sapat na oras at pagkakataon ang taxpayers na magbayad ng kanilang estate tax sa ilalim ng Estate Tax Amnesty Program,' said Lumagui. (Well, the purpose of this is to ensure that we can accommodate more taxpayers because in the past few weeks we have seen a surge in people coming to our office. So, this is to give taxpayers more time and opportunity to pay their estate taxes under the Estate Tax Amnesty Program.) —RF, GMA Integrated News
