Pensacola Beach lifeguards fully staffed and ready for Memorial Day weekend
PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. (WKRG) — Friday was a perfect beach day for people starting their weekend in the sand on Pensacola Beach.

'We're super excited. We came all the way from Ocean Springs. So we're excited to play together as a family,' Regi Wood, a beachgoer said.
'I'm excited to be out here everyday. Memorial Day is really like the start of our great summer,' Bill Jordan, a Pensacola resident said.
As crowds take to the shoreline, Pensacola Beach lifeguards are fully staffed and ready to go.
'We get everybody trained and ready and all the extra equipment and resources we need to all the locations,' Water Safety Deputy Chief Alex Johnson said.
Lifeguards are staffed on Pensacola Beach, on Gulf Island National Seashore's Opal, Langdon and Johnson Beaches, and, starting Saturday, lifeguards will also be on Perdido Key Public Access #2.
They're reminding people to always swim near a lifeguard.
'We want to stop the tragedy or the emergency from happening before it ever takes place,' Johnson said. 'So if you swim near a lifeguard we're going to come talk to you. We're going to tell you what the hazards of the day are, where the rip currents are and then we're going to continue to keep an eye on you and you're family.'
Lifeguards are expecting yellow and possibly even green flags to fly this weekend.

'We're ready for a beautiful and fun weekend and we hope to make it a safe one for all of our residents and visitors on Pensacola Beach,' Johnson said.
