Kansas City breaks ground on 18th and Vine parking garage ahead of World Cup
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new city-owned parking garage in the historic 18th and Vine district on Monday, after postponing it due to the rain this past weekend.
The new parking garage will be built on the corner of 18th Street and Lydia Avenue. It will provide the district with nearly 500 parking spaces and is part of the 'Revive the Vine' initiative.

This initiative joins the $400-plus million reinvestment in the jazz district, combining public infrastructure projects with private development to restore cultural landmarks, expand housing, improve walkability and support neighborhood vitality.
The $20 million project involves reconstructing an existing surface lot into a modern, multi-level facility, offering up to 470 parking spaces.
The garage will feature enhanced fencing, lighting, and pavement improvements to better serve residents, visitors and local businesses.
Construction on the garage will start this June, with work expected to be completed in June 2026, just in time for the FIFA World Cup.
