A FRENCH woman has been arrested after her husband and daughter were found stabbed dead in their hotel room in Iceland. A French woman has been arrested in Iceland after her husband and daughter - who all had been living in Ireland - were found stabbed to death in their hotel room in Reykjavik. The family had French citizenship but had been living in Ireland in recent years. The woman, aged in her late 50s, her husband, who was also in his late 50s, and their daughter, who was around 30 years of age, had travelled from Dublin to the Icelandic capital on Saturday 7 June, according to RTE News. They had booked a flight home for last Saturday, 14 June, the day on which the bodies were discovered. Icelandic police received a call at 7.14am local time that morning (8.14am Irish time) from a member of staff at a hotel located in downtown Reykjavik, close to the harbour. Officers were told that "an incident had occurred", and while no details were given in that call, "it was clear something very serious happened", a spokesperson for the Reykjavik Metropolitan Police told RTÉ News. The incident occurred at the Edition Hotel in Reykjavik, Icelandic state broadcaster RÚV reported. According to local reports, the bodies of the father and daughter were found on the fourth floor of the hotel. They had both sustained stab wounds. The woman in her 50s was found alive and had also sustained stab wounds. She was brought to Landspitali University Hospital, the main national hospital which is located in the capital. The woman then appeared in Reykjavik District Court on Saturday, and was remanded in custody until Friday 20 June, RTE News reports. Police say that the period of detention may be extended for another week when she appears in court again, but could not comment on what charges, if any, may be brought, as it is still the early stages of this investigation. The French Embassy was immediately contacted upon discovery of the bodies, Icelandic police confirmed. It is understood that police have not contacted the Irish consulate.
