Tow truck operators stay busy as winter weather hits roads
CARTHAGE, Mo. — Wintry weather means a busy day for several local companies.
We spent a day with those professionals to see how we can keep from being one of their customers.
Richard DeWitt—and the other tow operators at Schrader's Towing—have been busy.
'We actually service Branson, Shell Knob, Springfield,' said DeWitt.
Putting them right in the path of this week's winter weather.
We caught up with DeWitt at Schrader's Carthage location.

'It was kind of later in the morning, and it started letting up a little bit and people started getting out, and then of course you get slide-offs.'
And he doesn't expect the calls for help to drop off any time soon.
'Because the temperature is going to drop, and the roads, with the moisture on them, are going to get slick,' said DeWitt.
He says if that happens to you—your best bet is to call a professional.
'Because you get the buddy that tries to pull you out, and you wind up with a tow rope or chain through your grill, or your windshield, or somebody gets hurt, or you're trying to pull somebody out on the side of the highway, and you don't have any lights to protect you, and somebody gets hurt.'
But not everyone can take a snow day, so DeWitt says…
'If you have to get out, slow is the name of the game.'
