Live Charlton Athletic vs Wycombe Wanderers: Lineups and updates from League One play-off
After the excitement of Stockport County vs Leyton Orient in the other League One play-off semi-final, Charlton Athletic vs Wycombe Wanderers promises to be a cagier affair. The tie is goalless going into this evening's second leg at the Valley, which is not surprising given that just one point separated the sides during the regulation season and just one goal on goal difference. Speaking after the first leg, Charlton manager Nathan Jones said: 'It was a tough game, a war of attrition. 'We defended our box excellently and I felt we finished really strongly. 'It's evenly poised and it's not a bad place to be. We've got to win a home game to get to Wembley and I think we'd have taken that. 'I'm really proud of the performance because we showed a resilience. Would I have liked us to play a bit more and create a bit more and show a bit more quality? Yes.' Wycombe's Richard Kone was perhaps fortunate to avoid a red card in the first leg, but the League One Player and Young Player of the Season, scored 18 goals during this season and is available to start tonight. Jones expects Charlton midfielder Chuks Aneke to be 'extremely motivated' as he is now available for selection after serving a three-game ban. The striker was sent off in the aforementioned 4-0 win at Wycombe last month for an off-the-ball incident, but he is in contention to feature, most likely as a substitute. Jones said: 'We're glad to have Chuks back. We've had to suffer three games without him, but he gives us a headache because now he's available and extremely motivated.' Charlton and Wycombe have played on 16 previous occasions, with the south London club winning eight, Wycombe four and the remaining three meetings, including the first leg, resulting in draws.

Charlton and Wycombe battle to stalemate in League One play-off semi-final opener
Wycombe and Charlton could not be separated as they played out a goalless draw in the first leg of their League One play-off semi-final at Adams Park. Despite Mike Dodds' Chairboys being the out-of-form side out of all of the teams involved in the play-offs, they were superb in the opening 45 minutes. Jack Grimmer and Fred Onyedinma worked brilliantly down the right-hand side to cause the Addicks' back-line numerous problems, and they almost took the lead inside the opening five minutes. Grimmer's ball found Cameron Humphreys, who brilliantly picked out striker Dan Udoh. He took a touch and fizzed a shot at goal from the edge of the box but goalkeeper Will Mannion managed to parry the ball to safety. From the resulting corner, Sonny Bradley's header went wide. It was a tight and cagey affair as Charlton struggled to break down a stubborn defence. Wanderers looked alert, dangerous and a completely different side from the one on the end of a 4-0 thumping by the South East London outfit 20 days earlier. One bone of contention in the first half was that Addicks boss Nathan Jones and his side believed Wycombe forward Richard Kone should have been shown a straight red card. The Ivorian was chasing down Kayne Ramsay but slipped, catching the full-back on the calf. Referee Farai Hallam opted to give Kone a yellow card, but replays suggested the tackle was dangerous and that the 21-year-old was fortunate to stay on the pitch. Moments later, Kone was involved in a pushing match with Macaulay Gillesphey which led to a small melee between both sets of players. Following the coming together, Wycombe's Xavier Simons and Charlton captain Greg Docherty were booked for their part. The second half was similar to the first as both sides put bodies on the line. Onyedinma and Adam Reach went close for Wycombe, while Tyreece Campbell saw a shot blocked by Bradley. Will Norris was called into action after 69 minutes when he blocked Matty Godden's stinging effort, before he once again denied the ex-Coventry man in the closing stages. A long ball over the top found Godden, who fired a volley towards goal after brilliantly controlling it on his chest. Norris pushed it away, and from the resulting corner he was there to claw away Docherty's close-range effort.

Under the radar: Richard Kone
Meet Richard Kone - Liverpool's NEXT Diogo Jota Yes, he might be a surprising name but the 21-year-old has been making waves at Wycombe this season - a team where Liverpool have signed players from before. Most notably, Jordon Ibe joined the Reds after coming through Wycombe's academy and playing for their first team at just 15 years old. Advertisement Kone is obviously a bit older and his story is even more remarkable. Back in 2019, he arrived in England to play in the Homeless World Cup. For almost five years prior to signing for Wycome, he has been playing at amateur level for Athletic Newham because his visa status prevented him from signing for a professional club. During his spell at Newham, he scored 88 goals in 108 matches. Ultimately, he was granted a visa and able to sign for Wycombe back in January of 2024 - after a long trial at the club. Now in his first season, Kone has finished the campaign with 26 goal contributions for the club. In the process, he has become one of the most exciting talents in the English Football League. Kone is a poacher who thrives at scoring goals and works tirelessly on the pitch. As per SciSports he has an 85% similarity in his playing style to Diogo Jota. Advertisement It's easy to see why. Jota during the height of his career at Liverpool was always seen as the club's most reliable goal-scorer. The Portuguese is very good at converting his shots into goals. Out of players who averages at least 2.5 shots per 90 minutes - no one has a better goal conversion in League One than Kone (21.17%). Jota has always been quick as well and a player who would do a lot of graft off the ball - being one of Liverpool's most effective pressers. Again these are characteristics shared by Kone as well. The Ivorian is very good at closing down defenders with speed and winning the ball back for his team. He ranks in the top 10% for forcing transitions among players in League One and in the top third for open play disruption. Advertisement This energy combined with his goal-scoring prowess makes Kone a player who should be on the club's radar. The reality is that sooner or later Jota will have to be replaced. He's going to be turning 29-years-old later this year and his form has dipped a little bit this season scoring just six goals in the Premier League. Kone is a player who isn't quite ready for a move to Liverpool, but in a year or so if he continues in the same trajectory he could entertain those conversations. That's why he would be an ideal profile for Liverpool to target in order to build on their multi-club model. There might not be a club in place just yet, but FSG are clearly working on it. Advertisement In the interim someone like Kone could be signed and loaned out this summer - but it's also entirely possible that FSG will complete their purchase of a potential new club and in that case Liverpool could just send him there instead. The most important factor why FSG brought back Michael Edwards is because they know they can follow a similar model to Brighton and nurture their own talents. Rather than needing to spend big money in order to sign ready-made talent, they can develop young stars and make them ready-made for Liverpool.

Two Wrexham players named in League One Team of the Season
The duo helped Phil Parkinson's men secure an historic third successive promotion, with Saturday's 3-0 win against Charlton Athletic at The Racecourse taking the Reds straight up to the Championship with one game remaining. Barnett has made 39 league appearances and as well as scoring two goals, the wing-back has the most assists in the division. The 25-year-old finished the campaign out of the side following the arrival of Ryan Longman but the 25-year-old's contribution has been crucial to Wrexham's success. Although he had a brief spell out of the side after sustaining ankle ligament damage, centre-back Cleworth has been a rock in the Reds' defence. The 22-year-old has made 41 league starts and also weighed in with eight goals in all competitions. The full League One Team of the Season: Sam Tickle (Wigan Athletic); Ryan Barnett (Wrexham); Max Cleworth (Wrexham); Lloyd Jones (Charlton Athletic); Christoph Klarer Birmingham City); Alex Cochrane (Birmingham City); Lewis Bate (Stockport County); Tomoki Iwata (Birmingham City); Davis Keillor-Dunn (Barnsley); Kwame Poku (Peterborough United); Richard Kone (Wycombe Wanderers). Parkinson was on the shortlist for the division's Manger of the Season award but the accolade was won by Birmingham City boss Chris Davie. The former Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Celtic assistant manager has taken the reins as head coach for the first-time and he led the Blues to the League One title and return to the Championship at the first time of asking, passing the 100-point mark in the process. Wycombe striker Richard Kone has been crowned League One Player of the Season. Kone was a prolific scorer in the Essex Senior League for Athletic Newham last season but he has made the step-up with ease, having 21 goal contributions in 39 league outings for the Chairboys who challenged Wrexham for the second automatic promotion spot but have had to settle for a play-off berth. The 21-year-old also scooped the division's Young Player of the Season award.
