Here's where Mansfield's new tornado sirens are — and what to expect when they sound
The City of Mansfield has installed four new tornado sirens. According to an announcement, the sirens are located at John's Park, South Park, John Todd Park and Burton Park. These sirens are now fully operational and will be maintained by Richland County. The sirens are controlled by the Richland County Sheriff's Office. A one-minute test of all sirens will take place on the last Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. The monthly test is designed to ensure that the sirens function properly. The test will consist of a steady tone lasting one minute. If severe weather is already in progress, the monthly test may be canceled. The sirens will be activated during weather emergencies when a tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Service. Upon receiving a tornado warning, the sirens will sound a three-minute steady tone. The message will inform listeners that "Richland County is under a tornado warning until hours this date." If additional reports of a tornado touchdown are received, the sirens may be activated again in the affected area. Once the tornado warning period has expired, the sirens will sound a one-minute "all clear" signal. The message will state, "Richland County 911 to all listening stations, the tornado warning for Richland County has expired." The City of Mansfield expressed gratitude to the Richland County commissioners for their support of this project, which aims to enhance public safety for residents and visitors. For further details on how and when the sirens are activated during weather emergencies, residents can refer to the Outdoor Warning Siren Alert Notification Procedures issued by the Richland County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). New wildfire nearly traps deputies searching for hiker missing weeks in South Carolina wilderness
PICKENS, S.C. – Search teams looking for a missing hiker on Friday narrowly escaped a new wildfire burning at Table Rock State Park in northwestern South Carolina. Pickens County Sheriff's Office deputies, along with K-9 units with the Richland County Sheriff's Office, were continuing the search for a hiker who has been missing for weeks in the wilderness of Table Rock Mountain, when a wildfire came dangerously close to the search team. "Our deputies actually barely escaped the fire," said Pickens County Sheriff Tommy Blankenship. "We're very blessed that they were uninjured, but it was a very scary situation for them." And it brought a halt to the deputies' search for the missing hiker. "Unfortunately, their search was cut short due to the negligent act of some hikers that led to the forest fire," Blankenship said. The fire also canceled plans for a volunteer search party on Saturday. How To Watch Fox Weather Stephanie Womacks went missing after she walked away from her campsite on the evening of March 3, and they have spent the weeks since continuing their search until Friday's fire, Blankenship said. The Pickens County Sheriff's Office said she is 5 feet tall, weighs 100 pounds, and was last seen wearing a brown hoodie with jeans. They ask anyone with information about her whereabouts to notify them at 864-898-5500. The people responsible for igniting the wildfire at Table Rock have been identified as two men who were hiking in the park, according to Blankenship. He noted the investigation into the fire will continue with the help of the Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Forestry article source: New wildfire nearly traps deputies searching for hiker missing weeks in South Carolina wilderness
