Lanes to be restricted in Peoria for Ride of Silence event
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria Public Works Department announced that some lanes will be restricted for an upcoming cycling event.
Rolling lane restrictions will go into effect starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday for the Ride of Silence, sponsored by Ride Peoria, according to Public Work's spokesman Nick McMillion.
The Ride of Silence is a slow-paced ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways, according to the event page. The event is free and open to the public.
According to McMillion, the bike route will begin at Tower Park at 1222 E. Kingman Avenue in Peoria Heights. Participants will travel south on North Prospect Road before heading east on East Hines Avenue. They will then head south on North Grand Boulevard.
They will continue on Grand Boulevard until they start traveling west on West War Memorial Drive to North New York Avenue. Participants will then head North on New York Avenue until East Lake Avenue. Participants will travel east on Lake Avenue until they reach Prospect Road, which they will take North to return to Tower Park.
The restrictions are expected to be lifted by 8 p.m. Drivers are expected to drive with caution in the area or find alternate routes.
