Pikes Peak Pride Festival this weekend
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Pikes Peak Pride Festival is this weekend, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. FOX21 news spoke with event organizers ahead of the fun. Set up for the festivities took most of the day on Friday, June 13n as organizers prepared for over 40,000 expected attendees. A bulk of the events take place at Alamo Square Park at the Pioneers Museum. You can find a full schedule of events for the weekend by clicking here. 'We really want to just make sure that people know that we are here for them. Just being around for each other, and letting each other know that love is love. We hear you, and we are all a part of your community,' said Amanda Ridenour, the Communications Coordinator for Pikes Peak Pride. The weekend includes a parade, live music, educational sessions, and more. 'It has become more apparent in our community that we need that support. We have been greatly growing, which is amazing and wonderful and everything that we kind of needed, especially in the Springs. Just for our community to come out and celebrate each other, and not be afraid to celebrate who we are and what we're doing,' said Ridenour. The first pride marches commemorated the Stonewall Uprising. In Colorado Springs, it's evolved to include aerialists, food trucks, and even a vodka lounge. 'We also have a sober garden, which is amazing and wonderful, and we'll have different spaces over at Youth Square, that will be covered and have all sorts of activities for our young community as well,' said Ridenour. Additionally, over 160 vendors will be selling items ranging from tasty treats to arts and apparel. 'We are going to be loading up the park with all of our vendors,' said Ridenour. 'And we also do have things that are going on inside of the Pioneers Museum.' No matter your gender identity, sexual orientation, or age, they hope you'll come check it out and celebrate. 'What pride means to me is having the love for everybody, having the love and the acceptance of everybody and everyone. We just need a community for everyone everywhere. That is a huge part of what we do. We want to be able to show our support for everybody. We've been really trying to engage in our community throughout the year and even continuing after pride,' said Ridenour. You can keep tabs on their events throughout the year on their website or social media accounts. Pike Ride is offering free bike valet for the Pride Fest. Organizers recommend biking because they say parking could be tricky with other events in town this weekend. The festival is free and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The parade however, takes place on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Mayor Ridenour announces 'language-access' study underway
MUNCIE, Ind. — Mayor Dan Ridenour has announced the launch of "Muncie's language-access study." A news release from Ridenour's administration said the city will be "improving access for its growing non-English-speaking population." Ridenour and Language Matters CEO Lucas Fonseca joined city department heads last week to officially announce the launch of Muncie's language-access study. This study will use Language Matters' "proven citywide model to gather valuable input from non-English-speaking residents, community organizations, and city departments." "The goal is to better understand Muncie's language-related needs and collect feedback from all constituents, ensuring that future language-access initiatives and infrastructure are built on solid data and can effectively serve everyone," according to the release. "Ensuring all of Muncie's residents have access to city services and can fully participate in community life is essential for the growth and success of our city," Ridenour said. "This partnership will help us better understand the diverse needs of our population and make informed decisions that will enhance quality of life for everyone in Muncie.' Muncie Democrats respond to mayor's 'State of the City' address
MUNCIE, Ind. — Muncie Democrats on Sunday issued a response to Republican Mayor Dan Ridenour's State of the City address, delivered Friday at the Horizon Convention Center. Democrat Harold Mason, president of Muncie City Council, gave the mayor "credit for giving a smooth speech about what he sees as big achievements for Muncie." However, Mason said in a release that he and fellow Democrats on the council "would appreciate hearing more about the true condition of our roads or how meaningful jobs can be created or how to address our growing homeless population, how to manage property code violations in distressed neighborhoods, and how to alleviate the poverty that nearly a third of Muncie's residents face." Mason also called for updates on "the long-promised Muncie Crisis Center" and the status of a "highly publicized" project to renovate Southway Plaza. More: In State of the City address, Ridenour calls Muncie 'a place where people want to be' Andrew Dale, Delaware County's Democratic Party chairman, questioned why Ridenour's speech "did not mention that he bought the former GM site for $110,000 after he failed to gather support for a solar field due to not being able to demonstrate financial benefit for the citizens of Muncie?" In June 2022, Democrats on Muncie City Council jointed one Republican member in voting down plans to place a solar energy field at the former site of a General Motors plant along West Eighth Street. "Now the city has lost approximately $25,000 in annual property taxes and inherited about the same amount in stormwater fees going forward every year," Dale said. Ridenour's speech last week noted the increase in new housing — in the form of single-family homes and apartments — during his five years in office. In Sunday's release, Dale said, "The truth is that most of the new housing in Muncie is low-income tax-credit developments." The Democratic chairman said he believes "there are many wonderful places to go in Muncie, but the real question is how to get to those places, given the condition of our roads." Democrats hold a 6-3 majority of Muncie City Council. Douglas Walker is a news reporter at The Star Press. Kingwood holds first Chili and Pepperoni Roll Cook Off
KINGWOOD, (WBOY) — The community came together Saturday in Kingwood for their first ever Chili and Pepperoni Roll Cook Off. Around 250 people went through the Community Center today to try some chili and pepperoni rolls. Eleven groups threw their hat in the ring to show that they have the best recipes. The event was put on by Kingwood Community Engagement, Friends of the Library, Kingwood, the McGrew House, Friends Thru Cancer and the Kingwood Civic Club. Art Museum of WVU hosts paper making event 'From Pulp to Paper' Rhonda Ridenour of Kingwood Community Engagement said there was something for everyone at the event. 'They varied from very spicy to very sweet so I'm guessing it's just your preference. We had some white chili, we had dark chili, we had different pepperoni rolls, some cheese some without,' Ridenour said. 'So, it was a big variety.' The Kingwood Public Library won both the people's and judge's choice for best chili. M And M's Bakery was the judge's choice for best pepperoni roll, and Hot Rod was the people's choice.
