Xenia fire chief retiring after four decades of service
XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) — The city of Xenia is honoring their fire chief as he prepares to retire. Fire and EMS Chief Kenneth E. Riggsby is retiring after 42 years of public service. During the Xenia City Council meeting on April 24, the city honored Riggsby through the unanimous passing of a resolution expressing appreciation for everything he's done for the community. Riggsby is a graduate of Xenia High School, who began his firefighting career as a volunteer firefighter for the Xenia Township Fire Department. He joined the Xenia Fire Division in 1983, ascending the ranks to eventually become chief in 2011. Xenia leaders commend Riggsby for his role in modernizing dispatch systems, improving staffing levels and launching the Division's first Fire Officers Academy in 2018. In recognition of his leadership, the city renamed its Outstanding Leadership Award in his honor. The 'Kenneth Riggsby Outstanding Leadership Award' was presented to him at the Fire & EMS Division's Awards Banquet on March 19, 2025. 'Chief Riggsby has been an exceptional leader whose commitment to this community and to his colleagues has never wavered,' said City Manager Brent Merriman. 'His thoughtful leadership and institutional knowledge have guided the Fire & EMS Division through times of both progress and adversity. His legacy will be felt for years to come.' Riggsby will officially retire on May 2. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
