Removal and Replacement of China-Linked Devices Ongoing, but CCP Risks Still Loom: FCC Chair

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr told lawmakers that threats from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) are still a major concern in telecom equipment in the United States. Carr warned members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services during a May 21 hearing that despite work to remove Chinese equipment from U.S. networks, there is still a lot to be done. The FCC head spoke to the government's work to complete the Rip and Replace program to remove equipment from companies like Huawei and ZTE, which could be completed within a year, despite funding shortfalls that caused delays. Rip and Replace In 2021, at $1.9 billion was earmarked to repay U.S. telecom carriers to remove and replace network equipment manufactured by the Chinese-based companies. The FCC chair cited previous actions to cut off Chinese state-linked providers, like China Mobile and China Telecom, as crucial, but said cybersecurity threats like intrusion by the Chinese hacking group 'Volt Typhoon' are still a potential risk. According to Carr, 'we need to be exceptionally vigilant across every single technology vector right now.' In addition to the Rip and Replace program, the FCC head said his agency is working to block other potential intrusions from adversarial countries, including changing the equipment authorization program. He explained that technology entering the United States has to be checked for compliance with standards for things like spectrum use and power levels. Under his leadership, changes are being made to ensure that the labs that do those checks aren't compromised. 'We're asking for national security checks as part of the devices that are coming in ... Carr went on to say they are 'adopting a new standard' in order to 'make sure the labs that do the testing for devices are not themselves beholden to some sort of foreign adversaries.'

Beth and Rip are stepping out of the Dutton Ranch chaos and into the spotlight with their very own spinoff series. Rumors of a spinoff show starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have circulated for months amongst fans and cast members alike, though nothing has been set in stone. That is, until Bloomberg recently confirmed details of the new show. Cole previously teased the Yellowstone spinoff, revealing that the idea has been in the works for quite some time. "I know that there's some stuff on the horizon when it comes to [Taylor Sheridan's] ideas for Kelly Reilly and myself and some of the other cast," he said in an interview with Country Living last April. But, now it's official. Keep reading for everything you need to know. Paramount Network If you thought Beth and Rip's love story was wild before, just wait until you see what's in store. According to the Bloomberg report, the neo-Western mastermind has been working quietly with Paramount co-CEO Chris McCarthy to bring the highly anticipated sequel to life—the first of its kind in the Yellowstone universe. The most exciting news of all? The show, tentatively titled Dutton Ranch, will star original Yellowstone favorites Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser—and is set to premiere on the Paramount Network this fall, with streaming available on Paramount+. So, not only does The Dutton family legacy live on, but it's happening sooner than originally thought. Paramount Network It's still unclear exactly how Dutton Ranch will continue the storylines from the original series, but the offshoot is expected to follow the present-day timeline of the original show. At the end of Yellowstone Season 5, Beth and Rip decided to start fresh on a smaller ranch near Dillon, Montana, after Kayce (Luke Grimes) helped them secure the family ranch by selling it to Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham). This new show will likely feature familiar faces from the original cast, too. Additionally, a show about the Yellowstone character Kayce Dutton is coming in 2026. Paw and order, Shreveport residents celebrate SPD K-9 finding wanted man

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The city is celebrating this special pup after he made his first big bust. On May 4, 2025, the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) responded to a report of a sexual assault. The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital, where she was immediately treated and worked with victim advocates and sex crimes detectives to identify the suspect. Christopher Morris wanted for sexual assault Source: Shreveport Police Department This is where the department's newest four-legged officer, 'Rip' received his time to shine. On May 6, SPD was executing a search warrant for Christopher Morris for one count of first degree rape in relation to the May sexual assault. Officers arrived at the 8800 block of Coyth Lane, where Morris had hidden himself inside a home, making it difficult for officers to locate him. Recognizing the challenge, they decided it was time for Rip to put his training to the test and help track down the suspect. Rip sprang into action, nose to the ground, sniffing out the wanted suspect in the home and bringing him to justice. The Shreveport Police Department shared news of the big takedown on Facebook, and residents flooded the comments with congratulations and cheers. 'Give that baby a raw steak.' 'Good job!!! I hope Rip got lots of Pupperoni's afterwards.' Morris was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the incident. One user commenting, 'Taking a bite outta crime…Good boy Rip!' Rip's successful first big bust serves as a testament to the invaluable role K-9 officers play in law enforcement. If convicted, Christopher Morris could face life imprisonment under Louisiana law. They may not be as intimidating as German Shephards but these new K-9 officers still possess a unique strength: breaking down barriers to the heart. Rip and Summit, both Golden Retrievers, are Minnesota's first traveling duo of therapy dogs for law enforcement in an initiative spearheaded by the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police. "I've always had a great understanding for the pain that happens to responders with repeated exposure to trauma," Tom Lowery, who along with his wife, Paige, owns and handles the dogs, said. "Seeing the dogs bring joy to other people is like a proud parent moment. That's the really fun part of working with dogs in this capacity." While some larger police departments like Minneapolis have their own therapy K-9s, Rip and Summit will be on call for public safety agencies across the state. In 2024, six first responders were killed in Minnesota, including two tragedies outside the metro: Jesse Branch, of Red Lake Nation Police and National Park Service Ranger Kevin Grossheim. The others lost were Minneapolis Police Officer Jamal Mitchell and Burnsville police officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, along with firefighter paramedic Adam Finseth, who were shot and killed in February 2024. "Of course it affects the whole agency because we all realize that could be us at any day," Lowery, a former firefighter and still active police officer, lamented to WCCO News. "The turmoil those officers go through as they process all of that - what's going to happen to me? Did I make a mistake? Is the person going to be OK? We will be there to support them however we can." WCCO The Lowery's won't receive salary or payment but instead will rely on donations through the Fraternal Order of Police for expenses like gasoline and dog grooming. On May 21, FOP will host a special fundraiser with Brew Pub Pizza to support the therapy K-9 program in Eden Prairie. "Really it's a great pizza for a great cause," Matt Selvig, a spokesman for Brew Pub Pizza, told WCCO News. "What we're wanting to do with it is take care of those heroes and those patriots that serve us every day."

Final 'Yellowstone' Season 5 episodes are streaming this weekend, but not on Paramount+

Final 'Yellowstone' Season 5 episodes are streaming this weekend, but not on Paramount+ Show Caption Hide Caption 'Yellowstone' finale: What happened with Rip and Beth and what's next? What's next for "Yellowstone"? Here's a recap of the finale and a look back to our chat with Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, plus a potential preview. Season 5 of Paramount's hugely popular series "Yellowstone," which wrapped up in December with a finale that drew 11.4 million viewers will finally be available to stream on Peacock this week. "Yellowstone" chronicles the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in the U.S., led by John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner before his departure before Season 5's Part 2. The series, which has become one of the most popular shows on TV in recent years, follows the family as they battle to maintain the land, "amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-earned respect," according to Paramount. The second half of Season 5 consists of six episodes that follow the Dutton family as they face "new challenges in the aftermath of a tragedy that rocks them to their foundations and creates a dangerous power vacuum in the state of Montana," according to NBC. If you've been planning to binge Season 5 Part 2 of "Yellowstone," here's what to know. 'Landman' strikes Season 2 oil: What's up in the 'Yellowstone' and Sheridan-verse? When will 'Yellowstone' Season 5, Part 2 be available on streaming? The second part of Season 5 will be available to stream exclusively on Peacock beginning Sunday, March 16, NBC announced in a news release last month. However, NBC did not specify what time the series will be available on their streaming service and did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for information. All five seasons of the series will be available to watch on the streaming platform beginning Sunday. Why is 'Yellowstone' on Peacock and not Paramount+? New episodes of "Yellowstone" Season 5 Part 2 initially aired on the Paramount Network on television in late 2024. They were not released on Paramount's streaming service, Paramount+, or on Peacock. Under streaming agreements, "Yellowstone" is available exclusively on Peacock. Paramount previously sold streaming rights to the series, which debuted in 2018, to Peacock, prior to the launch of Paramount+ in 2021. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle. While the makers managed to tie loose ends in Season 5's finale, which USA TODAY'S Bryan Alexander described as "bloody but happy," the future of "Yellowstone" is still somewhat unknown. Multiple reports have suggested that the series will continue with a Rip and Beth-focused spinoff, though neither creator Taylor Sheridan, nor any of the actors have confirmed whether the series will be returning. Hauser and Reilly (Rip and Beth) had earlier alluded to both scenarios (Season 6 and a spinoff), and director and longtime collaborator Christina Voros, in an interview with USA TODAY after the release of the first episode of Season 5, had claimed she did not know whether "Yellowstone" will end after the second half of Season 5 as originally reported. Sheridan "has made some very strong choices about the 'Yellowstone' world being forever changed in John Dutton's absence," Voros previously told Alexander. "But when you write characters with depth, heart, and complexity, there's always room to wonder what happens next." "These are some of the most popular characters in modern television," she added. Reilly, on the other hand previously told USA TODAY that she has known how "Yellowstone" would end since it started. Costner's premature departure did not fundamentally change that course. "It wasn't supposed to happen so soon," she had said. "But the fact that we got to return poetically to the show's authentic vision is really satisfying." Hauser, who had declined to pinky swear, added: "We don't know, for real. The truth is, there is nothing definitive or set right now. We want everyone to see these last six episodes as their finale. And then, if there is a future, and Taylor writes something inspiring for us, we've both said, 'We're there.'" Where to stream 'Yellowstone' prequels '1923' and '1883'? The prequel spinoff series of "Yellowstone" "1883" and "1923" are available to stream on Paramount+. Season 2 of "1923," featuring the ancestors of the Duttons from "Yellowstone," Cara and Jacob Dutton (played by Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford), premiered on Feb. 23 with new episodes dropping weekly on Sundays.
