Town of Ripon home uninhabitable after fire, 1 cat dies

TOWN OF RIPON – A town of Ripon home is uninhabitable and one cat has perished after a fire Thursday morning. A 911 call reported smoke inside a residence at W13819 Skyline Circle at around 10:24 a.m. June 19. The caller stated black smoke was beginning to fill the home, a news release from Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's deputies and Ripon Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. When they arrived, emergency responders located the source of the smoke and contained the fire before it could spread. The cause is believed to be electrical in nature, stemming from a failure in a tool that was plugged in. The property owners were not home during the incident. One cat inside the residence succumbed to smoke inhalation while other pets were safely rescued by emergency responders, the sheriff's office said. Although the fire was confined to the basement, the rest of home suffered significant smoke and soot damage and is uninhabitable. The sheriff's office said while the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature, it is still under investigation.
