Schoolboy Liverpool fan's mum 'feared the worst' after he was left in street following parade crash
The mum of a schoolboy Liverpool fan hurt in the parade crash says she "feared the worst" when she saw him lying in the street following the incident. Maria and Nikitas, 12, travelled to the city centre to watch the Premier League champions parade in front of the Liver Building and, when the bus passed, made their way back up Water Street with hundreds of others. But, as they joined the crowds, Maria says the atmosphere suddenly changed when she heard the noise of a vehicle beeping and people screaming. "I had limited visibility until the car literally came in front of us and hit us," she said. "I went flying to one side of the car and my son went flying to the other. "I managed to get up off the floor, I was panicking looking around and then I saw my son lying still on the other side of the road. That's when I started freaking out, I lost it at that point. "I saw people rush over to him, they lifted his head up and he started screaming 'mum, mum', so obviously I was thinking the worst, I didn't know what injuries he had at the time. "I didn't think about being hit myself, I was just running on adrenaline." Maria and Nikitas are not covered by reporting restrictions imposed after Paul Doyle, 53, was charged with seven offences in relation to the incident, covering six complainants. "Nikitas has been obsessed with Liverpool FC since birth and going to the parade has become a tradition for me and him; this was the third one we had been to together, he was so excited," Maria said. "The plan was to go and grab a burger in town and then get the train home. There were thousands of people walking up Water Street at this point, and we couldn't see much. "We were basically looking at our feet, with our hands in the air trying to take a view videos. The atmosphere was amazing, we were having a great time." Speaking about those who helped Nikitas, Maria, who lives with her son in Liverpool, added: "I cannot thank the people that attended to my son enough. "Passers-by, first responders, everyone. People were amazing. I wouldn't have expected less from our city. "I felt this cross between shock and distress but also immense pride in what everyone did to help. I have never felt so much love." Nikitas was carried by a paramedic to the Riva Blu restaurant at the top of Water Street where other casualties were being assessed. His ankle had ballooned and his arm was causing him a lot of pain. He was then taken by ambulance to Alder Hey Children's Hospital where X-Rays revealed he had suffered fractures to his ankle and wrist. He has since been using a wheelchair to get around. "It is very unfortunate for him because he is right handed, he's a gamer and an avid footballer, obviously it's half-term, it is very miserable for him," Maria said. "Mentally he is not doing great. He has moments, so do I. I was crossing the road the other day and someone came abruptly into the petrol station and I jumped back and started crying. "You think you are ok and then something comes in and triggers it. "On Nikie's side, because of his age, it is so frustrating, he is upset." Nikitas is due to go back to Alder Hey for an assessment on his injuries, and is currently wearing large plaster casts on his arm and leg but has been told these may be changed. His mum added: "He is quite excited about this because he has been told he can choose the colour of his new casts - and you know he is going for red." Paul Doyle, 53, of Burghill Road in West Derby appeared before Liverpool's magistrates and crown courts on 30 May after being charged with a series of alleged offences relating to the incident in Water Street on 26 May. He is next due in court for a plea hearing on 14 August.

Mohamed Salah faces backlash for social media post after Liverpool parade crash
Mohamed Salah drew the ire of social media users for sharing a post celebrating Liverpool's Premier League title triumph shortly after a terrifying car crash sucked the air out of the trophy parade. On the heels of the festivities, a black SUV was seen barreling into Reds supporters that remained gathered on Water Street. Meyerside Police announced in a statement that a 53-year-old man has been detained. The scene in the Liverpool City Center swiftly devolved into chaos as first responders and officers rushed into action. A local restaurant, Riva Blu, was converted into a makeshift ER while an air ambulance additionally touched down to provide aid. Taking to X following the horrifying incident, Salah posted a photo of himself kissing the Premier League trophy while on the pitch. The image, which did not come with any caption, appeared to be prescheduled. They need to do damage control,' one X user wrote, with another adding: 'Mo, you need new people to run your socials…' A third chimed in, 'This is why you should never relinquish control of your socials to a soulless media team. Completely inappropriate.' In an official statement addressing the tragic event, Liverpool sent well wishes to those who were impacted and confirmed they were working with police. 'We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening," the club wrote. 'Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. 'We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.' The Premier League also broke its silence on the matter, describing what took place in the Liverpool City Center as "appalling." "Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected," a statement read. "We have been in contact with Liverpool FC and have offered our full support following this serious incident." Keir Starmer — the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom — expressed a similar sentiment, writing on X: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected. "I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident. I'm being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate." In light of the car crash, Merseyside Police implored Liverpool citizens to refrain from speculating about the primary suspect's motives or post distressing footage of the incident to social media.

Liverpool restaurant used as makeshift ER as pedestrians wheeled away after car plows into crowd
Italian restaurant Riva Blu is being used as a makeshift ER after a driver plowed into a crowd of fans celebrating the Premier League title win. On Monday, Liverpool FC celebrated their Premier League title win - a 20th first division title, tying Manchester United for the most in English football - with a parade on the streets of the city. However, the jubilant atmosphere was decimated by a car driving through hordes of fans. The car reportedly collided with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a male was detained, but a number of people were left injured. Riva Blu traditionally serves Italian cuisine, but has evolved to assist the tragic scene with paramedics treating victims. Some people were seen with bandages around their heads and limbs, while Riva staff appeared to be providing fluids to those being treated and the emergency services. An air ambulance also landed in the city center to try and deal with the issues. The Liverpool Ambulance Service released a statement after the Merseyside Police detained a man. A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service stated: 'NWAS is supporting an incident in Liverpool city center, following reports of a road traffic collision. 'We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible. Updates will be published on this page and Mersey Police as we know more.' The incident happened as thousands of fans lined the streets of the city to celebrate Liverpool's Premier League title victory. The Premier League season ended on Sunday, with Arne Slot's team securing a draw with Crystal Palace to finish on 84 points. But this tragic moment has threatened to mar celebrations. Natasha Rinaldi witnessed the incident as she was watching the parade from her friend's living room window when they 'heard some screams.' 'It was so loud,' Rinaldi told Sky News. 'People sounded desperate. And then we looked at the window and we saw the car [had] run over people. Then people started rushing to go after the driver and they tried to break the car. The police did everything to block and to push people away. 'We could just hear screams and screams. We were very confused. Some of my friends were down there and the car was so near them. It was a horrible scene, nobody was expecting it.' Prime Minister Keir Starmer has also spoken out and condemned the incident.
