Stars for the future

It was an IPL of many firsts. The first edition to see a player earn a match suspension, the first to see a player, 23-year-old Riyan Parag, hit six consecutive sixes while his still-a-teen teammate Vaibhav Suryavanshi became IPL's youngest centurion. It was of course also the first IPL to be interrupted by war, and to get a tragic post-script. Cricket-wise, two teams, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, vied for their first title. Digvesh Rathi's on-pitch theatrics entertained as much as irked opponents, and when these went too far, he was benched. And Krunal Pandya became the first to win Player-of-the-Match award in two IPL finals.

IPL 2025: Vaibhav sparkles as Rajasthan Royals trounce Chennai Super Kings by six wickets

With skipper Sanju Samon (41) he raised a match-winning 98-run stand for the second wicket. The skipper was happy playing second fiddle to the teenager. It was only the fourth win of the season for the Royals, who may avoid a last-place finish with Tuesday's victory. After Samson's dismissal, Suryavanshi and Riyan Parag (3) also joined their skipper in the dug out, and it looked like Royals may again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The equation read 30 off 26 balls, but Dhurv Jurel (31) and Shimron Heymyer (12) carried the side past the finish line. Earlier, Young Ayush Mhatre once again reminded everyone that he is one for the future with a 20-ball 43 that helped CSK huff and puff to a modest 187 for eight. MS Dhoni's team would have been in bigger trouble had Dewald Brevis (42) and Shivam Dube (39) not prevented the innings from falling apart. Dhoni himself could manage only a sedate 16 off 17, failing to provide a late flourish. There was no end to the woes of the his team's floundering middle order. The promising start was frittered away with Devin Conway (10), Urvil Patel (0) struggling to get going, and they had lost half the team inside eight overs. Pacers Yudhvir Singh (3/47) and Akash Madhwal (3/29) shared six wickets between them. Conway began with a fluent drive off Tushar Deshpande, who was mixing up his length nicely, and beat the bat of the New Zealander a number of times. Conway did not last long, offering a simple catch to Parag at mid-off off Yudhvir. He charged down the wicket but just managed to chip the good length ball. Yudhvir struck again, sending back the talented Patel, who went for a big shot but failed to connect, and Kwena Maphaka took a sharp catch at the edge of the circle. Mhatre moved the scoreboard by finding two boundaries off Deshpande, who was hitting the deck hard. R Ashwin's surprise promotion to number four left the fans delighted as the spin all-rounder broke the shackles with a tremendous six on the leg side off Yudhvir. Mhatre also found consecutive boundaries as CSK milked 24 runs in that over. The youngster continued to bat in aggressive fashion, finding a hat-trick of boundaries off Deshpande but the pacer had the last laugh. Soon Ashwin departed and Ravindra Jadeja also could not make any impact, flicking off his legs to Dhruv Jurel, to give Yudhvir his third wicket of the match. The run rate was not an issue, as CSK were going at close to 10 an over but half of the batters were back in the dug out well before the half-way mark. In came Brevis and the South African churned out yet another impact knock, a 25-ball 42. His entraining knock that had three sixes and two fours was ended by Madhwal. But before that, Brevis and Shivam Dube added 59 runs for the sixth wicket to keep CSK in hunt for a 200-plus total. The spectators were on their feet when 'Thala' Dhoni arrived at the fall of the Protea batter. The CSK skipper punished a full-length ball from Riyan Parag for a six, much to the delight of fans as the chants of 'Dhoni' 'Dhoni' reverberated across the stadium. Runs continued to flow from Dube's bat as the tall left-hander dispatched one from Wanindu Hasaranga into the stands. However, the late push never came.

MS Dhoni Becomes 4th Indian Cricketer After Rohit, Kohli And Suryakumar To...

MS Dhoni is playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. The 43-year-old wicketkeeper-batter came out to bat at No. 8 for CSK on Tuesday (May 20) against Rajasthan Royals in the 62nd league match of IPL 2025 currently underway at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and hammered his first six of the match on the fifth ball of the 16th over bowled by Riyan Parag. The big hit straight down the ground helped him join Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav in an elite list of Indian batters. The Ranchi-based cricketer became the fourth Indian to hit 350 or more sixes in T20s. The ongoing match between CSK and RR is Dhoni's 404th T20 match, and he has hit 350 sixes so far.

IPL 2025: Riyan Parag reflects on what went wrong for Rajasthan Royals this season

Riyan Parag Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag reflected on his team's disappointing IPL 2025 campaign ahead of their final match against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium . Currently placed ninth with six points from 13 games, RR needs a win against CSK to avoid finishing last in the points table. Rajasthan Royals, who opted for a predominantly Indian batting lineup with limited bowling resources this season, failed to gain momentum and were eliminated early from playoff contention. There were almost four to five games, close games, if those had gone in our favour we would have been in a different situation. But that's how T20 cricket is. That's how IPL is. We have made errors and we are paying the price," Parag said during the pre-game interaction. Parag acknowledged his inability to convert starts into substantial scores this season, unlike his performance in IPL 2024 that earned him a spot in the Indian white-ball team. "I have gotten a lot of starts. I have failed to convert most of them. I feel if I did convert at least fifty percent of the starts I got, I could have put our team in a different position. I try to be hard on myself and see what can be done differently," Parag stated. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch Bitcoin và Ethereum - Không cần ví! The reschedule helped us a little as batters. We need to be more clinical. We got to respect the conditions and the bowlers. We have tried to put up a show. Chennai has done the same. We Collectively, we need to put up a show tonight for the fans and put up a good match," he added. CSK's Dewald Brevis expressed optimism about the upcoming match and his team's performance throughout the tournament. "It (jet-lag) is not too bad, I have had enough rest and I am ready to go. I have really enjoyed to be a part of this team, I think we have played great cricket throughout the competition and I think we are moulding into the right direction," Brevis said. Rahul Dravid reflects on RR's narrow losses: 'One or two hits away in every game' The South African batter shared his excitement about the match conditions and his approach to the game. "Was fun to play some of those knocks. Need to relax, be yourself and back your ability, everyone out here have got unique skills. We need to go out there and enjoy ourselves. I am super excited (for today's match), the wicket feels good. It's going to be lots of fun. We'll give our best out there and hopefully it's a 'W'," Brevis concluded. IPL 2025, CSK vs RR Live Updates: MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings take on Rajasthan Royals in battle for pride

IPL 2025, CSK vs RR Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals: Follow Latest Updates IPL 2025, CSK vs RR Live Updates, Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals: The two teams languishing at the bottom of points table - Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals - will clash against each other on Tuesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium. It is going to be a battle for pride as both teams are desperate to finish their campaign on high after getting knocked out of the playoff race. CSK will be playing for the first time after IPL resumption and will be rejuvenated to bounce back against Rajasthan Royals, who suffered a defeat against Punjab Kings at home on Sunday. It is going to be the final match of the season for the Royals, who have looked lacklustre throughout this season, especially when it comes to finishing the game. They have lost multiple close games in the final over after failing to achieve the target. The absence of Sanju Samson for majority of season also hurt them as Riyan Parag didn't look ready for the big captaincy role. ...Read More However, the emergence of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi at the big stage was one of the only positives for Rajasthan this year. The left-handed batter scripted history with a 35-ball century and continued his fearless batting approach in the following matches. In the last match against PBKS, he scored a blistering 40, but his team failed to finish the match once again. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings' strategy of stacking the team with familiar, seasoned players has backfired this season, exposing the limitations of an outdated approach. The team placed significant expectations on Rahul Tripathy and Deepak Hooda, banking on their international experience. However, while that pedigree may have secured them spots in the squad, they've struggled to deliver consistently when it matters most. The rebuilding process has started with the infusion of young blood like Ayush Mhatre, Shaik Rasheed, and Urvil Patel. The 20-year-old Mhatre came close to hitting a century against RCB and also did well against SRH and MI.
