CAF jawan killed in IED blast triggered by Maoists in Chhattisgarh
RAIPUR: A jawan of the
Chhattisgarh Armed Force
(CAF), deployed for the security of road construction work in the insurgency-hit
Bijapur district
, was killed in a deadly pressure IED (Improvised Explosive Device) blast, suspected to be planted by Maoist insurgents.
The incident occurred four kilometers from Toynar towards Farsegarh in the Mormed forest region.
The deceased jawan was identified as
Manoj Pujari
, 26, a jawan from the 19th Battalion of the CAF, deployed on RSO (
Road Security Operation
) duty for ongoing Toynar-Farsegarh road construction. He came under the pressure IED during patrolling and succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Authorities condemned the attack, calling it a 'cowardly act by Maoist extremists' targeting personnel who were working to bring development and connectivity to rural tribal communities.
A massive area domination and search operation was immediately launched in the surrounding jungle terrain. Officials said a detailed report will be issued after the operation concludes.
