6 sex offenders arrested for violating parole in Montgomery County
Six sex offenders were arrested for violating parole in Montgomery County, according to a Montgomery County Sheriff's Office spokesperson. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The Adult Parole Authority and the sheriff's office recently completed compliance checks on parole offenders who are registered sex offenders in the county. Authorities visited 64 registered sex offenders' houses throughout the county to check for any violations. Out of the 41 sex offenders contacted, six of them were arrested on parole violations without incident, the spokesperson said. 'Operations like these are about preventing harm before it happens,' Sheriff Rob Streck said. 'By verifying compliance, we're protecting families and holding offenders accountable. We value our strong partnership with APA and will continue working together to keep our community safe.' Warning issued after drugs mixed with narcan-resistant ‘bath salts' found
An urgent warning has been issued by authorities after a dangerous drug mixture was seized. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force seized over 64 grams of a drug mixture of fenanyl and eutylone, according to a media release. Eutylone, part of a drug class known as 'bath salts', is highly dangerous and unpredictable. 3 vehicles reported stolen last night; sheriff's office reminds residents to lock vehicles
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is reminding people across the county to remain vigilant about vehicle theft. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said they've received 54 calls for service related to stolen vehicles so far this year. The number includes three vehicles reported stolen last night, two of which were recovered. Montgomery Sheriff's Office to host 10th annual Easter egg hunt
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The 10th annual Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Police Athletic & Activities League Easter egg hunt is coming up soon. The PAAL egg hunt will be Saturday, April 19, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Registration will start at 10:30 a.m., with the hunt beginning at 11 a.m. There will be over 3,000 eggs for kids to collect and a special visit from the Easter Bunny. Local library to offer accessibility programming in April Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck called the event a wonderful opportunity. 'We are thrilled to host this event for the 10th year in a row, bringing joy to the children and families of our community,' said Streck. 'This is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, enjoy some Easter fun, and connect with our deputies and the PAAL team.' Scammers posing as employees of local sheriff's office
The Montgomery County Sheriff's office is warning of scammers who are posing as their employees to take advantage of residents. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The scammers call residents and tell them they have failed to appear in court or have an urgent legal matter to address, according to the sheriff's office. These scammers often use caller ID spoofing to make it appear as if the call is coming from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. 'These scammers can be extremely convincing,' Sheriff Rob Streck said. 'They exploit fear and confusion to pressure people into compliance. Let me be clear: the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office will never call residents to demand payment or threaten arrest for unpaid fines, warrants, or missed court dates.' Scammers have also been using the actual names of MCSO employees to make the scams appear more legitimate, according to the sheriff's office. In the latest scam, they have been claiming to be 'Director Russell' from MCSO. 'We want residents to know this is a deliberate tactic by these criminals to make their schemes more believable,' Sheriff Streck added.
