Fort Walton Beach police chief discusses appointment to Florida's State Board of Immigration Council
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (WKRG) — Local law enforcement and state leaders are coming together to combat illegal immigration in the state of Florida. Okaloosa County Deputy of the Year responded to 1,900 calls for service in 2024 This month, the Florida Legislature established the State Board of Immigration Enforcement. Fort Walton Beach Police Chief Robert Bage has been appointed to serve on its council. 'This new council is just another example how Florida is leading the nation in safety and security in our community,' Bage said. Bage said the council will advise Governor Ron DeSantis and his cabinet on how local law enforcement can assist in state and national efforts to crack down on illegal immigration. Bage, who was appointed to the council by Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, has served more than two decades in Florida law enforcement. He also served in the United States Navy for two years, and then joined the United States Border Patrol for a year before a 20-year career with the North Miami Police Department. In 2019, Bage was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Fort Walton Beach. FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (WKRG) — Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis appointed Fort Walton Beach Police Chief Robert Bage to the State Immigration Enforcement Council. It advises the new State Board of Immigration Enforcement that Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet lead. 'I'm pleased to appoint Fort Walton Beach Police Chief Robert Bage to serve on the State Immigration Enforcement Council,' Patronis said. 'Before serving nearly 30 years in Florida law enforcement, Chief Bage served two years in the United States Navy and has great experience protecting America's borders from illegal immigration from his time with the United States Border Patrol. During his tenure with the Fort Walton Beach Police Department, Chief Bage reformed and grew the Department to be more effective at serving the local community. For these reasons and more, I believe Chief Bage will serve as a fine addition to the State Immigration Enforcement Council, and I wish him the best of luck.' Bage worked for the United States Border Patrol for a year before returning to law enforcement. He's been the Fort Walton Beach police chief since 2019.
