3 people arrested for breach of peace during alleged narcotics transaction in Gales Ferry

GALES FERRY, Conn. (WTNH) — Three people were arrested after an apparent narcotics transaction, 'turned bad,' in Gales Ferry on Wednesday, police said. Authorities were dispatched to the area of Route 12 in Gales Ferry around 2:30 p.m. for reports of an active 'physical disturbance' involving two men, police said. Community reacts as North Haven stabbing suspect appears in court Police saw a man with injuries on his face at the scene. An investigation determined that the disturbance was due to a narcotics transaction that 'turned bad,' and the woman and man involved left the scene on foot, police said. Police used a K9 to track the two suspects and found them in nearby woods, authorities said. Robert D. Fontaine,41, of Canterbury, was charged with breach of peace, assault in the second degree, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of failure to appear in the second degree. Police found he had two active warrants. He was held on a $12,000 cash/surety bond and is scheduled to appear at New London Superior Court on Thursday. Winter L. Harden, 36, of Gales Ferry, was charged with breach of peace, conspiracy to commit and possession of a controlled substance. She was held on a $10,000 cash/surety bond and will be presented to the New London Superior Court on Thursday Henry Mercado, 45, of New London, was charged with breach of peace and illegal sale of narcotics.
