Employers learn to build opportunities for Summer of Opportunity youth
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — On Wednesday, businesses and organizations learned how to provide the opportunities for the Rochester Summer of Opportunity Program as employers.
The Youth Employment Services Winter Convening: Summer of Opportunity and Beyond Planning for a Summer of Success took place at the Rochester Public Library. Hosted by the City of Rochester, panelists and speakers shared tips to empower prospective employers to create meaningful experiences for youth participating as interns.
Rochester youth from the ages of 14 to 20 can participate in the Summer of Opportunity through Youth Employment Services. The program partners directly with Rochester-Works Summer Youth Employment Program to allow youth to gain real-world work experience in the city through various partners.

'We get the opportunity to go in and test out their skills in those areas and sometimes a job may come out of it at the end of that as well, too.' Isaac Bliss, manager of Youth Services for the City of Rochester, said about the experience. 'But again, we really want to make sure that they're connected to those experience and interest of young people, so when they go out and look out for those job opportunities, whether it's a job right out of high school or something that they're going to look for after college, it gives them that opportunity and experience to actually put that on their resume.'
