School bus headed to New York flips, more than a dozen injured
A school bus headed to New York crashed on the Garden State Parkway injuring at least 13 of its 31 passengers. Mayor Mike Ghassali of Montvale, N.J. said Tuesday morning that one passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was 'fighting for his' after being pinned under the overturned vehicle during the Monday night wreck. The mayor posted a photo of the flipped vehicle on Facebook after the crash, where he said those injured were taken to local hospitals. 'THANKFULY [sic] NO FATALITIES REPORTED,' Ghassali wrote online. 'MOST SERIOUS INJURY NOW HAS A PULSE.' The crash occurred roughly 30 miles from Midtown Manhattan around 7:45 p.m. Ghassali said the bus was coming from Lakewood, N.J. Rockland Daily reported passengers were headed to the Shikun Skver Hasidic village in Rockland County for a wedding event, and that passengers were young men accompanied by two adults. One of the younger passengers was reportedly seriously injured. Gov. Phil Murphy said on social media that he was aware of the incident. 'I've been briefed on a crash on the Garden State Parkway earlier tonight near the James Gandolfini Service Area involving an overturned school bus from Lakewood,' he posted on X. '@NJSP and @NewJerseyDOT are currently on the scene. An investigation is ongoing.' ABC News reported Tuesday that 15 people including a 44-year-old bus driver were treated for injuries.
