Man in critical condition after shooting in Saint John, Alert Ready cancelled
A Saint John Police Force vehicle is seen in this file photo. An Alert Ready message has been cancelled following a shooting in Saint John, N.B., Wednesday night. The Saint John Police Force responded to a report of shots fired in the Mabee Road area around 5:12 p.m. A woman was arrested at the scene and she remains in custody. About 20 minutes later, an officer was at a local hospital on an unrelated matter when a man arrived with a gunshot wound. Police say the victim told the officer he was shot by an unidentified person while walking in a wooded area of Rockwood Park. Police then contained and evacuated a large area of the park and nearby residents were asked to shelter in place. An Alert Ready was issued out of concern for public safety. Please follow further updates. — RCMP New Brunswick (@RCMPNB) May 8, 2025 Police say they were able to make a connection between the shooting victim and the report of shots fired on Mabee Road. They say there is 'sufficient evidence' to believe the shooting did not happen at Rockwood Park, which is about 10 kilometres away from Mabee Road. The Alert Ready was cancelled around 11:45 p.m. after police determined there was no active threat to the public. Residences in the Rockwood Park area no longer need to shelter in place and police have stopped searching the area. The victim remains in hospital in critical condition. Saint John police say their major crime unit continues to investigate the shooting. Investigators are asking for witnesses or anyone in Mabee Road area with video footage of the shooting to call them at 1-506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Saint John issues 'shelter in place' alert related to shooting
The city of Saint John has advised residents around the Rockwood Park area to shelter in place, saying one person has been shot and a suspect has not been identified or located. The warning covers Seeley Street, Mount Pleasant, Lilly Lake and all of Rockwood Park. The Saint John Police force said around 9 p.m. on social media that police are on scene and more details are to come.
