Rodney Rice joins USC after reaching Sweet 16 with Maryland

Guard Rodney Rice is joining Southern California after reaching the Sweet 16 with Maryland this season. Rice started 32 of 36 games, averaging 13.8 points for the Terrapins. USC will be his third stop after beginning his college career at Virginia Tech, where he played as a freshman and sat out his sophomore season because of injury. "Rodney is one of the most dynamic players in the country," USC coach Eric Musselman said. "He is going to be a huge addition as a combo guard. Rodney can score the ball at all three levels and defend at a high rate. He was also one of the top players in the Big Ten this past season." Rice is the fifth player the Trojans have added for next season.

USC men's basketball adds big-time transfer in Maryland's Rodney Rice

USC men's basketball adds big-time transfer in Maryland's Rodney Rice Desmond Claude leaving is a blow for USC, but the Trojans have Rodney Rice coming in to soften the impact of that wound. The college basketball offseason is now in full swing, and with it, USC men's basketball has seen significant roster turnover. On Tuesday, the Trojans picked up perhaps their biggest addition of the offseason to date in Maryland transfer Rodney Rice. This offsets the blow created by the departure of Desmond Claude in the portal. After spending his freshman year at Virginia Texh, Rice was a member of the Terrapins' 'Crab Five' starting lineup that advanced to the Sweet 15 this past season. On the season, he averaged 13.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per contest. Now, Rice heads to USC to join a Trojans team once again in transition. For the second offseason in a row, USC will return almost zero production from the previous year. This season, the Trojans got a bit of a free pass given that Eric Musselman was in his first year and was not hired until last April. In the coming year, however, expectations will be significantly higher. USC is hoping that Rice can deliver the way he did at Maryland and help get the Trojans back to the NCAA Tournament.
