A worker at a Popeye's restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina has been shot dead at point blank range, in what eyewitnesses say was a row over burnt food A fast food restaurant manager is facing a murder charge after he allegedly shot a co-worker in a row over burning some food. A customer who witnessed the shooting says 22-year-old Rodney Wood got into a row over burnt biscuits - an American savoury item, much like a British scone. The eyewitness says the pair "took the argument outside" and began shouting in the street over one burning the food. Wood allegedly then took out a gun and shot the other employee twice. The altercation initially began inside a Popeyes location in Charlotte, North Carolina, at around 6pm local time on Sunday, May 11. He has since been charged with both attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, per the arrest details. According to a police affidavit obtained by WBTV, a customer who witnessed the incident said that Wood got in a disagreement with a fellow employee over "burnt biscuits". In court documents, authorities state that video taken from the scene allegedly shows Wood 'discharging his firearm twice at point-blank range,' then outlet reported. It has been reported that the bullets hit the victim, whose name has not been released, in the groin and chest. He was rushed to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. Wood allegedly ran from the Popeyes after the shooting, but authorities found him shortly after in the same shopping centre. He allegedly told authorities that his co-worker had punched him in the face three times once they stepped outside and claimed that he fired 'two warning shots' that were not intended to be fatal, it has been claimed. Authorities said that Wood 'failed to articulate a credible, imminent threat of deadly force necessary to support a self-defence claim under state law,'. Both Wood and the victim were managers at the Popeyes location. He is currently in custody with a bond set for $50,000 (around £37k).

A manager at a Popeyes restaurant in North Carolina is facing an attempted murder charge after shooting his co-worker over burnt biscuits, cops say. The shooting unfolded around 6 p.m. at a Popeyes restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina. Wood and the other employee were arguing over overcooked biscuits, a customer who witnessed the shooting told police. The witness said both Wood and the other employee went outside after one 'challenged' the other and the two began fighting. While the two were sparring, Wood allegedly pulled out a gun and fired two rounds. Video taken from the scene shows '[Wood] discharging his firearm twice at point-blank range,' according to court documents obtained by WAFB. Both shots struck Wood's co-worker – one in the groin and one in the chest. The injured employee was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries before undergoing surgery. When police arrived at the restaurant, Wood was gone. While witnesses told authorities he had run away, police quickly caught him in the same shopping center. Wood claimed the co-worker he shot was also a manager, police said. He also told police that when the two stepped outside, he was punched in the face three times. He then allegedly fired two 'warning shots,' which were not meant to kill, he told police.
