Carlos Rodon gets 100% real on 1st year slump with Yankees
The post Carlos Rodon gets 100% real on 1st year slump with Yankees appeared first on ClutchPoints. As the New York Yankees have helped star Carlos Rodon in terms of the rotation, he's been having a productive season compared to his first year with the team. While the Yankees have been in immense rumors with the trade deadline ahead, Rodon looks to be a crucial piece for the team down the line as he reminisced about the start of his stint with his new team. Advertisement Rodon was on 'The Show' with Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman, where he would be asked about his first season with New York, where in 2023 he had a 6.85 ERA, the highest of his career with at least 12 starts, along with 64 strikeouts and a 3-8 record. He would say how it was 'rough,' though it was made better with the birth of his son, Silo. 'That first year was rough, and we just had Silo, which was a blessing,' Rodon said. 'So I think he kind of made it a little easier on us than, for me at least. To come home and then not have to think about baseball and think about being a dad, which was nice. So reflecting on that, it was rough, long drives home, a lot of time in my head thinking about, you know, what's wrong? Why can't I make this better?' Yankees' Carlos Rodon speaks on how he evolved Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images As Rodon has had his fair share of ugly starts with the Yankees, there's no denying the exceptional season he's having thus far, as he has a 2.60 ERA with 90 strikeouts and a 7-3 record. Still, he looks back at that first season as an opportunity to 'evolve.' Advertisement 'I wish I was better at the time, but I wasn't,' Rodon said. 'And like I said, I think it was just part of to get me to where I am at this point. I had to evolve, and you know if it was easy, I think in this moment, I'd still be throwing fastball, slider 50/50. So you wouldn't have these extra pitches and being able to change the usage and become a more complete pitcher.' New York starts a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night.

Carlos Rodon strikes out 10 as Yankees hold on to beat Angels, 3-2
Carlos Rodon dominated the Angels for seven innings and the Yankees launched two home runs as they held on to win 3-2 on Tuesday night in Anaheim. The Yanks have now won four straight games and their seventh consecutive series. Here are the takeaways... -There was a pitcher's duel going on in Anaheim with Rodon and Tyler Anderson trading zeroes until the fourth inning when Ben Rice took the LA southpaw deep for his 11th bomb of the season. Rice saw a 77 mph changeup that went over the middle of the plate, and launched it 423 feet over the right-center field wall. Advertisement The Yankees would push across another run in the sixth after an error by center fielder Matthew Lugo allowed Cody Bellinger to reach third with one out. Anthony Volpe cashed in with a single after jumping on a first-pitch changeup up in the zone. -Rodon entered Tuesday's game allowing just one run over his last 11 innings pitched and continued that dominant stretch against the Angels. At one point, Rodon retired 11 straight Angels. He gave up a two-out double to Jo Adell in the seventh, and manager Aaron Boone came out to give his starter a blow and left him in to try and get the final out of the inning. Rodon paid off his manager's faith with his 10th strikeout of the game to keep the Angels off the board. The Yankees' lefty did it all, he got through seven innings despite a couple of innings where he threw at least 20 pitches. Rodon's final line saw him throw 105 pitches (69 strikes) without allowing a run and scattering five hits and no walks. He tied a season-high with 10 punchouts and lowered his ERA to 2.60. Rodon even helped his own cause with a tremendous Jeter-esque jump throw to first base to complete the play. Advertisement -The Yankees would tack on against the Angels' defense in the seventh courtesy of an Oswald Peraza homer, his third of the season. The infielder's blast was off his bat at 111.8 mph, the hardest hit ball of the night and went 408 feet to dead center. Aaron Judge picked up his 80th hit of the season with his first-inning single, raising his season average, briefly, to .401, but ultimately finished 1-for-4 with two strikeouts, having dropped his batting average to .395. -Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a perfect eighth inning, and with Luke Weaver unavailable due to pitching two days in a row, Devin Williams was asked to close out the game, and he made it very interesting. He allowed a leadoff homer to Yoan Moncada, and after Taylor Ward's single, Travis d'Arnaud flew out to the center field warning track. Luis Rengifo singled to put runners on the corners and pitching coach Matt Blake came out to talk to Williams. Adell grounded into a force out, but drove in the Angels' second run. Young catcher Logan O'Hoppe came on to pinch-hit and got the green light to swing on a 3-0 count and popped out to Peraza in foul territory to pick up his fifth save of the season, his first in a month. Game MVP: Carlos Rodon Rodón has a 1.27 ERA over his last eight starts and his 90 strikeouts are second in the AL behind only Tarik Skubal. Highlights What's next The Yankees and Angels finish their three-game series on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 9:38 p.m. Clarke Schmidt (1-2, 4.58 ERA) is on the mound and will be opposed by Yusei Kikuchi (1-4, 317 ERA).

Rodon Gives Teammate the Talk He Once Needed
Carlos Rodon knows what it feels like to be the most criticized player in pinstripes. For two seasons, he wore that target daily. And for stretches, he didn't much care for Yankees fans either. But that version of Rodon is gone. Advertisement The left-hander has turned his New York tenure around in a big way this year. He's become the kind of pitcher the Yankees can trust again. So when Devin Williams blew a lead in the eighth inning Monday night, allowing three runs on a hit and two walks, Rodon wasn't frustrated after the Yankees' 4-3 loss to the San Diego Padres. He was empathetic. New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon pitches against the San Diego Padres at Yankee Stadium on May 5, 2025. © John Jones-Imagn Images 'I've been through it,' Rodon said. 'I know what that feels like. It's not easy. But we acquired him for a reason. He's such a great pitcher.' Rodon had just thrown 6 2/3 scoreless innings, only to watch it unravel in a game the Yankees lost. But he wasn't upset, just encouraging. Advertisement 'He just needs to build that confidence, and he needs to know what kind of pitcher he is,' Rodon said. 'He's so good. He's tremendous. He has an unbelievable changeup.' After being demoted from the closer's role, Williams had looked good in two scoreless appearances since. But overall, he has a blown save, a 10.05 ERA and has allowed 13 earned runs in 11 2/3 innings pitched. He's walked 10. Rodon understands the Yankees need Williams to get back on track. The two-time National League Reliever of the Year wasn't brought in to pitch mop-up innings. He was brought here to finish games. But confidence in a smaller market like Milwaukee doesn't always stand up to the bright lights in the Bronx. And Rodon, more than anyone, understands how hard it can be to recover after a tough start in pinstripes. Advertisement 'Just go out there and pitch with some swagger,' he said is his best advice to Williams. "They'll boo you, sure, but they'll love you when you do well too." Williams, for his part, said he had mechanical issues finding his landing spot in coordination with his release point. Still he said he wasn't giving up. "I am ready to go out there tomorrow," Williams said. Yankees' Rodon Reflects on Fan Behavior After Incident
Carlos Rodon knows what it feels like to be targeted by fans. But the New York Yankees lefthander said what happened to Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran over the weekend is beyond his imagination. Rodon, speaking to Randy Miller, called the harassment Duran faced from a Cleveland Guardians fan "super unacceptable." Advertisement During Sunday's game at Progressive Field, a fan taunted Duran over his past admission that he once tried to take his own life. Duran told the story in 'The Clubhouse' documentary on Netflix, and the reaction has been almost completely supportive. Until that disgusting incident in Cleveland. Carlos Rodon© John Jones-Imagn Images "Dealing with hate is part of the major league life," Rodon said. "It sucks, but it comes with our territory." Rodon has lived through fan hate. He heard boos nearly every time he took the mound during a nightmare 2023 season, when he struggled badly after signing a six-year, $162 million contract. But even in his lowest moments, Rodon said, he never faced anything like what Duran went through Sunday. Advertisement "I know how it feels to be the target of fans," Rodon said. "I felt like I was falling into a hole deeper and deeper and wishing somebody would throw me a rope. But that's a whole different thing, what Duran went through in his life and then came up on Sunday." Rodon wasn't alone in backing Duran. Several Yankees players told they empathized. Cody Bellinger said the fan should be banned for life and Aaron Judge said that fans can boo all they want but don't cross that personal line. 'You can boo and you can say whatever you want about performance, but what happened in Cleveland is taking it too far.' Advertisement MLB and the Guardians are investigating the fan, who could face a lifetime ban. It's the latest incident in baseball where fans have become part of the story. The Yankees fan who tried to rip Mookie Betts' glove away during last year's World Series was banned for life and just last week a fan reached out to touch Tommy Pham as he was fielding a ball at the wall.
